jinx Dies as Irojans Beai Wash. Huskies Saturday By WaIIoping Them 19-O SEATTLE, Nov. 3.-R-A jinx died Saturday. It disd hard but it was thoroughly defunct when the Terrific Trojans of Southern -California hurried on down the Rose Bowl trail after beating a hopeful University of Washington team, 19–0. Washington made game of 1t 1 for thres quarters-a bruising even Steven argument punctuated by Trcy’s one 93-yard thrust to the touchdown jackpot midway in the fi1st half. Washington might have gone the cautious way and came out with cnly 6–0 loss, but the Huskies of Coach Ralph (PesD Welch elect ed to try for all or nothing and their misfiring aerial game open ed the gate for two Trojan count CTS ip the final period. The jinx was a 15-year affair which had kept use from winning in Seattle over that span. It died Saturday because the Trojan pass ing game was clicking and Wash ] ington’s wasr Husky receivers got into the clear time after time, but Freddy Proyo’s losses were always around their toes. Trojan receivers got into the clear and George Mur- phy or Jim Powers Tipped them strikes all afternoon USC com pleted Is out of 21 pass tries; the story for Washington was in 27 Coach Jeff Cravath’s Trojan ma chine began to roll after Larry Hatch of the Huskies apparently had put it in a hole with a coffin corner kick that caught the side line at the 7-yard mark. Operating behind fast and massive line and mixing plays beautifully to keep the defense loose, the use backs gobbled up the 93 yards in IS plays Mickey McCardle whip-sawed the ends, Don Doll smashed the line, and Murphy Tipped the passes. It was an 11-yard aerial down the middle, Murphy to McCardle, that put the exclamation mark to the finish, giving Troy all the points it really needed. An Interrogation of a Provo pass 1 by Gordon Gray opened the way for a 26-yard counting drive by the winners halfway through the last period. An incomplete fourth down pass by Washington on it’s own B yard line gave Troy its final scoring opportunity. Verl Lillywhite tailed one on three yard drive and Doll got the other spinning six yards on a fake re- verse.
