COAST GRID BATTLES ON THIS WEEK SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. l1.-IR Far Western football dips into mid November competition this weekend with four Coast confer ence encounters to be decided along with a sprinkling of intersectional contests. Results of the games will have no effect on the league leader ship. Southern California, the pace-setter, sits out an open date Saturday but a week later makes it’s bid for the Rose Bowl in the conference wind-up engagement with the University of California at Los Angeles The U.CL.A. Bruins, defending champions but once beaten, take or the invading Washington Husk- ies and figure to win off com parative performances. The Bruins, after losing to California 60 a week, rolled up a 27–7 victory over Oregon State in the North last Saturday Meanwhile, their forth coming opponent, Washington, dropped a 13–7 decision to Cali fornia As noted, only U.CL.A. stands in the road of an undefeated sea- son for Southern California, and the formers showing agaiHst Wash ington may provide an interesting comparison. Southern California scored a 19–0 win over Washing ton a week ago. Oregon, fresh from 1926 tri- umph over Washington State in a snowstorm, travels to Palo Alto to meet the seven times defeated Stanford Indians Stanford’s mea- ger forces, however, made a cred- iitable display against powerful Southern California last week by losing only 14-o and may give Oregon a real battle. California, once defeated and enjoying it’s finest season in a decade, will entertain a scrappy University of Montana eleven which has pulled two surprises out of the bag. Doug Fressenden’s $ Grizzlies were short-enders each time but defeated Washington State, 13–12 and Idaho 21–0 in their last two contests. Washington State and Oregon State, losers in their last games, collide at Corvallis with O.S.C. as the mild favorite.
