Optional website analytics

CollegeFootballDigest uses Google Analytics to understand which stories readers enjoy, how visitors find the site, and whether they return. Analytics loads only after you choose “Allow analytics.” You can keep reading without allowing it.

If you allow analytics, Google receives information such as the pages you visit, engagement events, campaign links, browser and device information, and approximate location. Analytics cookies use a browser identifier to distinguish visits. We set their expiration to six months. Your analytics choice is stored in your browser for six months.

We disable Google advertising personalization and Google signals. We do not send search terms, form contents, email addresses, or account identifiers through our analytics code. Campaign links use story and channel codes rather than personal information.

How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains Google’s processing. You can also use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Counting visits without cookies

Separately from Google Analytics, the site counts its own page views so we can see what people read. For each page view it keeps the date, the page, the site you came from (for example Google or TikTok, from your browser’s referrer) and whether it was a phone or a computer. To count how many different people visited in a day, it keeps a one-way code made from that day’s random number, your network address and your browser’s name; the random number is deleted after two days, after which the codes are deleted too and only the day’s total is kept. It sets no cookie and stores no address, name or anything else that identifies you. Visitors signed in to the site’s admin and automated crawlers aren’t counted.

Your choice

Use “Analytics preferences” in the footer to allow or decline analytics at any time. Declining stops further measurement in this browser and removes the site’s Analytics cookies. It does not remove measurements already received by Google. Browser privacy tools may also block measurement.

Story suggestions

The nomination form sends the player, college, hometown or high school, source link and optional story idea to our private editorial inbox on Cloudflare. It also records the submission time, a random receipt ID, and a story identifier if you arrived from one of our articles. These are unverified suggestions that editors use to decide what to report; submissions are not published automatically.

We do not ask for your name or email and do not subscribe you to a mailing list. Please do not submit private contact details, medical information or information about minors. Network information is used temporarily to limit abusive submissions; we do not include it in the saved suggestion. If you want a submission removed, contact admin@collegefootballdigest.com with its receipt ID.

The Hometown Stories newsletter

If you sign up, we keep your email address, whether you’ve confirmed it, the page you signed up from and, if you signed up from a school’s page, that school. We store it in our own database on Cloudflare and send the email through SendGrid (Twilio), which processes your address only to deliver it. We email you once to confirm; nothing else arrives until you do. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all newsletter email. We turn off open and click tracking, so links in the email go straight to the stories. We never sell, rent or share the list. To have your address deleted entirely, write to admin@collegefootballdigest.com.

Ask the Digest

Questions you type into Ask the Digest are sent to Anthropic’s Claude to write the answer, together with the parts of our records it looks up. We keep each question and answer to check and improve the answers; we don’t keep your IP address or anything else that identifies you with them, and Anthropic doesn’t use them to train its models. Please don’t put personal information in a question.

Publisher inquiries

If you inquire about Hometown Desk, we save your publication name, reply email, proposed school and optional note in our private studio on Cloudflare, together with the offer version and receipt ID. Our team uses these details to assess and respond to that inquiry. This does not subscribe you to marketing emails or place an order. Form contents and contact details are not included in our analytics events. Contact admin@collegefootballdigest.com with the receipt ID if you want an inquiry removed.

Site operation and external content

The site is hosted on Cloudflare and uses EmDash to manage content. Requests to the site are processed by our hosting service to deliver and secure pages. A theme cookie remembers your light or dark appearance choice; administrative sign-in uses separate session storage.

Links to news outlets, social platforms, and other sources lead to services with their own privacy policies. Embedded media may contact the provider when loaded or played. The Analytics choice controls our Google Analytics tracking, not those separate services.
