A little of the glamor has been washed off this years finale by Columbia’s defeat of the Cadets ended a 32-game unbeaten- streak for the West Pointers and Army’s scoreless tie with Illinois. Notre Dame moves into the contest as the No. l team of the nation, unbeaten and united, and still ranking from the $50 and 48–0 shellackings of 1914 and AS. Last year the two hammer ed it out in an 90 tie but this looks like Notre Danes year. With Johnny Lujack and frankie Tripucka leading a pass ing barrage, the Irish thumped Navy 27-O in Cleveland Saturday in what Notre Dame coach aohv ca’ed his teams S best game of the year. Army rebounded from the Co. lumbia upset by walloping Washington and Lee 65–13 bu Coach Earl Blaik received no consolation from the over whelming triumph. The South ern Generals completed 20 of AZ aerials for 235 yards and Notre Dame can throw en- better. Still in there battling Notre Dame for recognition for the country’s mythical champion ship are Michigan, Southern Methodist, Georgia Tech, Penn sylvania, Penn State, Southern California and Virginia. AL boast perfect records with the exception of the far Western Trojans who had their slate blemished by a tie with Rice earlier in the campaign. Utah also is unbeaten and un. tied but the Utes don’t rate with the other powers. Kansas, which plastered Kansas State $50, has won four and tied two. Michigan 600 moved closer to the Big Nine title and a New Years date in the Rose Bowl by whipping the Fighting Illini of Illinois 14–7 in terrific bat tie. Southern Methodist (6-O) ruled the Southwest Conference with 14–13 victory over Texas. The Longhorns dropped their first game of the year as dazzling Doak Walker, SINUS ALL America candidate, outshone brilliant Bobby Layne by pass ing for one touchdown, scoring the other, and by booting the vital two extra points. Southern California (6-O-D kept heading for a rendezvous at Pasadena with 1910 triumph over Washington. California, still the Trojans’ chief rivals, stayed in the running by edging out U.C.L.A. 60. Penn and Penn State, the two top eastern powers who are being watched closely by the bowl scouts, won easily. Penn $50, surprised by Princeton year ago, took no chances yesterday as Tony Minisi paced the Ivy League co-leaders to a 26–7 vic tory over the Tigers. Penn State (6-O, cleared the bench against Colgate but couldn’t stop tn e point parade. The Lions to a 46–0 win. Georgia Tech (6-O), no. l team Of the deep south, hustled a first period touchdown over Duke and then held on to hand the Blue Devils their first loss OF the year, 20. Duke had been tied by Navy. Saturday the Engineers will try out their stuff against Navy at Baltimore. Virginia (6–0), flattened Rich
