.Hoya Mistakes Lead toEag|es’ Triumph, 27–6 All Four of Winners Touchdowns PortIy Due to Loxities by MerreIl WhittIesey Stor Sioff Correspondent BOSTON, Nov. 1.-Georgetown, which in the vernacular of the foot ball world was supposed to be up for the Boston College game today, was up in the air instead and in a painful exhibition at Braves Field booted a 27–6 triumph into the hands of the. big, bruising Eagles. Boston College kept its major bowl hopes alive by capitalizing on Georgetown’s sandlot mistakes to win with ease before 1924 half frozen spectators in Braves Field. a crowd that was some $1,000 short of expectations. The defeat was kayo punch to Georgetown’s hopes of competing in the Pineapple Bowl in Honolulu. Georgetown used four different methods of handing the ball to the Eagles on a silver platter and each time 1t was-touchdown B. The first instance was on a pass that Elmer Raba tried to get off while hopelessly trapped and he fumbled. The second time was poor kickoff by the Eagles which they recovered for an onside kick while the Hoyas stood sleepily by. The third was on an interception of an ill-aimed pass by Johnny Hughes and the fourth time it was a needlessly at tempted shoestring catch of a punt by John Kivius which the alert Eagles recovered. Oddly enough, the unrevealing statistics gave the Eagles only a slight edge over Georgetown in all departments. But the statistics do not show the errors ~and it was Georgetown mistakes that helped the Eagles to a 300 halftime lead. Late Score Averts Shutout. The Hoyas held the Eagle reserves to a minus yardage in the last quarter and averted a shutout by driving As yards to late touch down, scored on an end zone pitch from Babe Baronowski to Al Sarasewitch, a play that covered seven yards. Baronowski’s kick for the point was blocked. The first three times Boston Col lege had the ball in the first quarter it couldn’t make any head way. The initial offensive gesture of the game was 34-yard gain by the Hoyas on a pass from Raba to Frank Desmond to the Eagles 81, but then Raba tried to pass with B. c. linesmen hanging on and Bob Palladino recovered a tumble on the B. C. 81. The Eagles drove doggedly to the Georgetown %, and with only a minute and half remaining in the first quarter, Ed Clasby, the Eagles T-formation master who had been out injured since the first game OF the season, waited what seemed like minutes to pass, then tipped an aerial to Angelo Nicketakis. The Eagles captain was in the end zone and caught the touchdown pass which the Hoyas’ Johnny O’Connor might have knocked down. Tom Brennan kicked the first of three placements for the extra point. Then came the play that took the heart out of the Hoyas. Brennan’s attempt at kickoff for the Eagles was an unintentional wobbly boot of about Is yards, enough to make it free ball. But while the ‘front.’ line Hoyas stood by, End Stan Goode of the Eagles recovered on the Georgetown IS. Hoya Line Finally Conquered. Clasby, behind excellent protection of the 225-pound average Boston line, faded back and drifted a long pass which Maurice Poissant caught and was stopped on the Hoyas’ 2-yard line. Poissant made a yard and then Clasby scored the first touchdown of the year through the Georgetown line on sneak, making it two touchdowns in less than 80 seconds. Every time the Hoyas started to move they were halted rudely by a Boston College interception or recovery. Tommy Graham weaved “a yards on the first play of the second period to the Eagles A but then he tried pass and Steve Stuka recovered for B. c. The Eagles kicked back and Johnny Hughes tried his hand at passing with the same result. Jim Benedetto intercepted Hughes pass and ran the ball back to the Georgetown 26. Fred Songin made IL yards and AL Canava, the half back who beat Georgetown last year, lugged the ball to the one then carried it over. The Eagles were bound again near the end of the first half after intercept ing a Baranowski pass, but an Ica~ 0ENp CTu,0IIIN pana q
