PENN STATE And HARVARD Tie In BRILLIANT GAME Military Lions” Make Strong Finish in Game Which Ends, 21–21. CAMBRIDGE. Mass. Oct. “a Harvard football warriors met Penn States Military Lions” here this afternoon in one of the greatest gridiron battles in Harvard’s his tory. They divided the honors with a score of 81 to 81. The first quarter was tinged with Crimson and Harvard scored first when George Owen. Crimson half back. after repeated gains. plunged over for a touchdown from Penn States 2-yard line. Buell. kicked the goal. Harvard lost Owen, how ever, when he was injured in the next play. and with him went much of the Crimson’s offensive and defensive power, Even in the second period il look ed as il Harvard had taken the gauge of the Penn Staters and had them listed for defeat. 1t was in this period that Chaplin. fuIlback. tore through right guard for the second touchdown. Buell. again kicked goal. The tide of battle turned when Bezdek’s Lions” tasted blood. The real fighting Of the game began and from then on for most Of the game the Penn Staters literally swept the Crimson men off their feet. Captain Killinser. Penn States sterling and hard working quarterback” flashed around his own right end and to Harvard’s 1-ysrd line. Here Light ner. Bezdek’s brilliant right half. dived through right guard for a touchdown and then kicked goal. In the second half Penn State cut losse a slashing brand OF play. Wilson soon broke away for a IS yard run through an open field and would have scored EXCEPT for Buells clever tackle on the s. yard line. Harvard stifTened here but Lightner again crashed across the line and then kicked goal. From then on Lightner and his \ mates gained steadily until Harwards 2O-yard line vas reached just before close of the period. This gave Lightner his chance to make his third touchdown as soon as the fourth period opened. Again he kicked the goal. putting Penn State seven points ahead. The Fisher men rallied under leadership of the Bueu-Johnson combination and fought gamely up hill to the 2o-yard line. Here Buell. uncorked a l5-yard pass TO Church | Ill, who scored from the 5-yard line. thus tieing the score when Buell. kicked goal. Penn again threatened. aided by the darkness but time was called before the tie had been broken. Final score. Harvard 2l. Penn State 81.
