CRIMSON ATTACK CRUSHES WILLIAMS Harvard, at First Puzzled, Soon Gets Started and Wins by 38 to 0. Special Despatch to. THE NEW York HERALD. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Oct. 16.-Harvard won over Williams to-day by the score of 3S to 0, scoring five touchdowns and a field goal and not missing a goal after touchdown. While the Harvard coaches expected to win by at least three touch downs. the work of the Crimson machine proved big surprise, and 1t was not expected that the game would prove as easy as II was. There was nothing to It but Harvard after the first period. In the first quarter Williams showed varied attack, and with a mixture of criss crosses and forward passes dazzled the heavy Harward team for few moments. 1t was not long, however, before Harvard found herself and solved the Williams attack, and from then on the light Williams team was outplayed. Boynton was looking forward TO scoring drop kick at least against the Crimson, but again ne was doomed 10 disappointment. Williams could not get within striking distance. Not once did he drop back TO try for field goal. He would have had TO be superman 70 negotiate field goal under the cir cumstances. Evidently Harvard feared Boynton, for when he first stepped back of his line Harvard exhibited q brand new defence Only four men remained on the line, the other seven playing “A rowing defence This system was the cause Of Boyntons downfall They solved his lateral and forward passes and his efforts to skirt the end proved disastrous Often the Harvard forwards were upon him before ne was able 10 pass the ball. Only for q few moments early in the first period did Williams appear dangerous. Their lateral and forward passes puzzled Harvard. but not for long. In one instance Boynton threw the ball almost fifty yards in an effort to turn the tide. The pass was not dangerous, however, as the Harvard men covered every Williams man that broke through. Most Of the Williams passes fell idly to the ground. a few were intercepted by Harvard. whit Williams managed to negotiate few short passes for gains. Harvard failed to score in the first period, the quarter ending with Williams in possession of the ball on their own 10 yard line. In the second quarter, after an exchange of punts, Humphrey broke clear and ran “a yards, planting the ball on the Williams 20 yard line. Hamilton was given an opportunity, and I’VE rushes carried the ball across the final chalk mark. F’axon kicked the goal. Buell. second string quarterback. negotiated a field goal from the 80 yard line a few moments later. adding three more points to Harvard’s score. Three Harvard touchdowns were made in the third quarter. George Owens ran back the kickoff to midfield. Then q forward pass, Churchill TO Fitzgerald. resuited in a touchdown. Fitzgerald ran so yards. showing excellent judgment and sldestepplng ability to reach the goal posts. Faxon kicked the goal. A tumble by Williams and a long forward pass then gave Harvard the ball on williams 80 yard line. owens tore off 10 yards, and in two more rushes carried the ball to the s yard mark. Here Churchill again became prominent and was showed across for the score. Williams forward passes got the Wis itors into trouble again as Havemeyer intercepted one on the Williams 40 yard line Harvard negotiated another pass. bringing the ball TO the 16 yard mark. williams held, but long runs by owens and Churchill finally resulted in another touchdown. Crimson substitutes made the last touchdown. Chaplin and Gratwick performed well. the former making the final touchdown and Gratwick kicking the goal The lineup.
