HARVARD ATTACK STRONG. Three TOuchdoWns for Crimson Against Williams. LOSERS PLAYS BROKEN UP Straight Rushing, with Little Open Play, Characterizes Work of Victors. 10y Telegraph u he Iribupe.l Cambridge. Mass. Oct. n.-Harvard beat Williams here to-day by a score OF IS points 10 0. The Crimson tally was three points smaller than that Of a year ago, but the showing made by the Cambridge men was encours ging as Williams presented a front that was much harder 10 break down than that which Harvard found 10 contend with in the Bates and Holy Cross games. II was a game Of rip-bang football for Harvard. the team being on the attack most Of the time. Three touchdowns were made and each came on a series OF rush line gains that carried the bali through the Williams team for almost half the length OF the playing field. Harvard improved in every department of its play. but particularly in the working out Of a united attack between the backs and the rush line Reynolds and Wendell made a powerful combination in the first half in which two Of the touchdowns were scored. and in the fourth period the sub stituted backs did very well. Haughton held his regular rush line I’m the play al most through the four periods making sub stitutions only at centre ana at the ends until the very close. Rogers did not get into TIE game At all He was taken TO the hospital for an opera ton for appendicitis after lunch, and Jencks was pressed into service at left tackle. Jencks did very well. while Leslie who was in his first game at left guard was much better than Keays has been. Harvards tackling was much better. than IN the earlier games. and the Williams plays were broken in upon again and again IL ,.afT~o but so aggressive were the Crimson rushers that the PLAYS seldom reached the line without being broken. Harvard essayed 10 play no oDen game to-day. but. as was an ticipated the men were sent into the game to punch their way through 70 the goal line. and thus to develop some confidence i’m the offence, on which the coaches have been working so hard. REYNOLDS did especially well. while Wen dell. on third downs. never failed TO gain the necessary distance. Williams had the ball In Harvard’s territory only te” times. and then lost all its chances for held goals. In the second period Bud Smith tackled Fish on a fair catch in midheld, and then Williams had a chance for a free KICK. Michael tried a goal from placement out his kick was wide Of the posts. twice after this Williams tried 10 kick goals from, the field. but both kicks failed. Pot ter tried one for Harvard at the very close of the first half. missing the uprights oy about a ward. and at the end Of the game Nfuhollapd’s try for goal fell short al though he had plenty Of time 10 get the ball away from Williams 33-yard line. Col. Cd q kickoff quickly. Potter ran a Kick back to midield. and Reynolds and Wendeh. OF two gains and with the aid OF two hveward penalties against Williams Tor on side play. carried the ball to within twenty wards of the Williams goal FROM mere five PLAYS brought the touchdown WenoeH making a Vineyard gain and then dflVihs his way over for the score. II was al inc end of this period that Michael missed ms field goal The Harvard touchdown in the second ,ariod was scored on another fine series OF rushes the plays going through the tackles ard behind Harvard’s splendidly executed v,irz shift which the Williams men showed M sbfitv 10 fathom. II took eleven plays 20 score the gains averaging five yards Harvard was penalized three times Tot use Of hands in its third period. but had the hall except when Michael tried place rnent goal from the 4s-yard line making short kick 49,. In the fourth period Harvard again got togetber” and on a dozen PUSHES In the course Of which big holes were opened Oy Cannbeu and Morrison, battered their way over fifty yards Of ground for the maj t.,,rhdnu.n The lineup follows.
