HARVARD HAS STRENGTH Williams Line Overwhelmed by Powerful Crimson RuSheS. MASS PLAYS SUCCESSFUL Home Eleven Advances Eighty eight Yards Down Field With out an Open Play. Cambridge, Mass, Oct. s-Harvsrd beat Williams, q to 0, to-day. playing splendid football while the regulars were in the line I’D and showing unexpected scoring power, even under the new rules Of rushing. Three touchdowns and goal from the field were scored against Williams. which was aggressive and active. although not heavy. The first touchdown was scored In the opening period after the ball had been advaaced just eighty-eight yards by rushing, without q forward pass or an onside kick being used. From Harvard’s 22-yard line Frothingham gained the middle OF the field splendidly, running on a fake Kick, and then, on seven plays. two OF which were clever quarterback runs through the guards BY Wigglesworth. the ball was carried down the field and across Williams’s goal Soon after this Harvard rushed from Will iams’s 4O-yard line to within sixteen yards Of the goal, where Lewis was taken into the game and was successful in drop-kicking a goal from the field. A thirty-yard run around WiInamss right wing by Graustein scored the second touch down Tor Harvard, and the last one came al the very beginning Of the second hall. when Harvard blocked a kick almost on WfIIiarns’s goal line, Captain Wilmington calling Oh the ball behind the posts. Harvard’s first eleven showed remark able power and concentration The good work Of the linesmen was specially notice able, and the backs took advantage OF the wide open holes that were made. Once, however Harvard was held on downs on the 5-yard line. Williams gained little until substitutes were put into the game on the Harvard team, and then could only advance with the ball in its own territory. There was no comparing the rush lines to-day. and looking at the game in com rarison with that Of last year, in which Williams held Harvard 10 a 10 score, Harvard appeared considerably stronger than in 1903 and Williams not as heavy, fast or well organized. The Crimson backs did some very fast work and handled the hall with the ends on forward passes although there were no long gains. O’Flaherty. wilmington and Lewis missed tries for dropkick goals. but Fehon got away with some beautiful punts. one oelhs for Sfry-aight wards.
