M|DD|ES SHUT OUT BY WEST VIRGINIA Contest, Full of FumbIes, Is Finally Won by Harris Long Run, 7 to 0. opeciAl Dispatcn 10 Inc Star. ANNAPOLIS. Md. October 6-Chuck full of fumbles and with the ultimate result in doubt through four-fifths of its duration, the foot ball game PLAYED here this afternoon between West Virginia and Navy, like the movement of a pendulum of a clock, swung back and fourth until Harris. the dashing star of the visiting aggregation, finally broke around the Admirals’ left end for a forty-yard dash and scored after the final period had gotten well beyond its middle. Just how continually both teams threatened to score was indicated in the first few minutes of play, when West Virginia got the ball on Navy’s thirty ward line. This was through Bailey quick recovery of fumbled punt AL most Immediately afterward the Sailors on an exchange of punts elaine pos session of the leather on their own thirty-yard line and carried it to the Mountaineers’ thirty-yard line. Though several times later on in the game they managed to get inside the forty-yard line of their opponents. the Navy never again came SO close to a tally. The single tally was made by Harris Oh Inc Flsitlns aggregation on forty ward left wing dash. when the final period was well past its middle Rodgers. who had shared honors with Harris on the plunging game. kicked the goal that totaied the final score, 7 to o. There were few long runs made in tn first period. and during this and the sec ond quarter the Middies probably ha6 the best of the argument With King doing their punting ant gaining an average of about twelve yards on each exchange the visitors hat an advantage which it was hard for the sailors to overcome. The principal gain. made by the Middies were on off ia exile Qashes and the use of the forward pass This was where the work of Coach Gil. mour Dobie really showed up Hereto fore the sailors have been notoriusl1 crude in the aerial department.

HARRY HARRIS LONG RUN DEFEATS navy Former Business High School Athlete Proves Star for West Virginia Eleven. Annapolis, Nd. Oct “a +o-yard run TO a touchdown by Harry Harris, formerly Of Business High School. OF Washington, TOW the stocky quarter back OF West Virginia University, brought about the defeat of the An napolis Midshipmen at the hands Of the Norgantown aggregation here this afternoon. Harris made his spectscular sprint from formation just after the opening OF the fourth period. He got around the Nays right wing after the teams had battled to stand OF in the early stages of play. and shaking OF several tackles, planted the ball directly behind the posts. The game was desperately contested from start to finish. although It did not develop much high-class football On the contrary there was much rag ged work by both teams. The West Virginians easily excelled in lire smashing and off-tackle plays but their much heralded aerial attack was easily smeared by the Sailors They succeededsin completing only one pass and that was for a gain Of about Is yards. 1 Ou NAc OAiACl NAt Aa-N far better success in this respect They completed a total Of eight pssse: for gains, the longest Of which wa’ between Ingram and Twig, which covered % yards. Standing out above all else to thu average observer OF football was th’ apparent poor handling Of both teams that is, in the direction Of the plays 1t early became apparent that th, West Eirginians would attain httl’ or no success in their crop Of aeria attack plays. but notwithstanding theI exploited this means OF ohens’ throughout the game. In plays through the line they were far more successful and a contipua hammering at the line probably wouit have brought them at least one mor’ | score. The score:
