Second Proves Wallover for the BIne-Stevenson InduIges in Some Star work = Quarterback Position We’ll Taken Care Of Wesleyan came to Yale yesterday hopeful of making a record showing, She even entertained hopes of scoring on the Blue warriors, but she was bit terly disappointed. Her defeat was one Of the most crushing she has ever suf- fered in New Haven. The score was 27 to 0. The men from Middletown started the game with fine spirit and dash. During the first half they put up a strong article of football. Their best efforts were confined to defensive work and by them they held Yale down to single touchdown in this half. The score was made after five minutes of play from consistent line bucking. Finn was pushed over from the ten yard line and Hoyt kicked the goal. YaNa had another chance to score in this half, but Morse fumbled the ball on Wesleyan’s ten yard line and a Wesleyan man fell on it. It was then punted out of danger and the half end ed three minutes after. The second half was a surprise. Ev- eryone was looking for another nip and tuck struggle, but Yale had got her “sacond wind,’ and simply tore down the field almost as she pleased. Wesleyan weakened perceptibly under the vigorous assaults of Yale. She Twas bewildered by the suddenness of the plays and her inability to check them. Stevenson for Yale was the bright and proper star. He did not go in until the second half, but as soon as he had his hands on the ball there seemed to be a change in the whole Yale eleven. Almost at the opening of the half he made a fifty-seven yard run around Wesleyan’s. right end, and shortly after carried the ball over for a touchdown, ‘eighty-five yards being made by Yale in four plays. THE CRIDlRON THE GAMES YESTERDAY Yale and Harvard Win Their Cames-Eddie Herr Played a Good Game For His College-Results. New Haven, Oct. 5-Yale played her first football game of the season yesterday, thrashing Wesleyan, 27 to 0. The Ellis played fast and shappy football under warm sun. The score at the end of the first half was to 0. But in the second half Yale went in like whirlwind and swept the Methodists over their line four times in fifteen minutes. It was a regular old fashioned open game with plenty of racing up and down the gridiron to entertain the spectators. Yale was not in danger of being scored on in the entire game, the Wesleyan players making only one gain. That came in the first half and was around Yale’s left end. When time was called at the end of the first half Yale had gained about 5 yards on rushes, ex- elusive of the running back of punts. The visiting team had only ten yards to it’s credit. The Yale line was im- penetrable to the Methodists’ assaults. Stevenson made a dashing play in the second half. running 57 yards. In a second dash from the opponents 40 yard line he made touchdown.
