ON THE GRIDIRoN Several Accidents Already Scores of Yesterdays Games. Yesterdays Games. Several accidents on the football field have already occurred in this city. Yesterday Paul Marshal, a post graduate student at the Waterbury High school and candidate for the football team. was practicing at the Atheltic field with the other candi- dates. One time he was running with tackle he jumped into the air, but he was tackled by the feet and thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining a fracture of his wrist. Charles Evarts, another High school candidate, had his leg severely wrenched and will not be able to play for some time. The students in general at the High school are manifesting but little interest in the candidates. The candidates show only half-hearted practice. One day they turn out in full numbers, the next day there is hardly a bakers dozen present Captain George Mcdonald is somewhat discouraged and said yester- day that unless eighteen candidates reported for practice to-day there would be no team this season. There is plenty of good material among the students for, a fairly good team, but the players won’t turn out. Attorney Francis Driscoll has been coaching the candidates daily for the past two or three weeks. pr Monagan also helps occasionally to instruct the team in the fine points of the game. The Young Colonials would like to play any football team whose players are under eighty-fve pounds. The lineup is as follows: B, Cass, center; J.. Sullivan, quarterback; F. Tehan, fullback; s. Donahue, right halfback; D. O’Connor, left halfback; T. McGiv- ney. right guard; T. Lane, left guard; G. Bressnahan, left end; F. Hull strunk. right end: B. Horrigan. right tackle: “. Lachance. left tackle. Any one wishing game may call on or aa- dress J. Sullivan, 957 South Main street. New Haven, Oct 1.-The Yale eleven defeated Tufts yesterday 1o to 0. Yale made three touchdowns and was cred ited with safety in the first hah, but was not able to increase the polnuS II the second half Tufts got together better and found the eleven of scrub team players much easier to stop in the second haIf than they had found Kin ney, Bloomer, Hogan and Metcalf in the first half Once when Yale seemed in fair way to score a touch down with five minutes to play Tufts rallied on her 25-yard line and held Yale for downs, getting the ball. Cambridge, Mass. Oct 1.-Harvard defeated Bowdoin at football yester- day, 24 to 0. Although their general work was defective, the Bowdoin men were able frequently to find weak spots in Harvard’s line, especially at the right, and in. the second half Da- vi sand Finn opened up holes through A. Marshall and Lehman for gains ag- gregatlng 45 yards. Princeton, N. J., Oct 1.-Princeton defeated Swarthmore yesterday after noon, 34 to 0. The visitors played fairly we’ll for the first game of the season, but some disastrous fumbling was noticed, and the halfbacks ran too high for good interference. Prince A. l. sI.S
