NEW YORK: Nov. 12.-Carl Snavely, coach of the North Carolima Tar Heels who gave Notre Dame a scare for 80 minutes before they crumpled and went down to a 42–6 defeat today, took issue with the officials after the game. without attempting to take away any credit from Notre Dame” Snavely said, II believe three mistaken decisions hurt us. badly. Nov understand please I’m not saying those breaks beat us. Notre Dame is easily the best team we’ve played against all year. We probably would have lost any way. but they certainly hurt u.s. Calls Play Illegal “I thought Bunting (Dick Bunting) might have made that touch down early in the second period. but the officials ruled he hit the ground on the half-yard line. My boys swear that Dick went over. So instead of us leading, 1870. Notre Dame scored and tied us at 6–6. I, myself, didn’t see it. However, I did see that for ward handof that Leon Hart (Notre Dame end gave to Bill Barrett (Notre Dame halfback) which gave Notre Dame its Sec ond touchdown. That definitely is illegal. However. the officials ruled it lateral” On the play in question, Hart, taking a forward pass from Bob Williams. apparently still was moving forward when he tossed a lateral to Barrett for a touch down. The North Carolinians didn’t think so. but the whistle hadn’t blown and the play stood. The touchdown and conversion put the Irish ahead. 13 to 6. 1.-THE third miscall came in the third period, Snavely went on. ‘The referee Chill Blake) called a safety against us. although one of the Notre Dame players knocked the ball into the end zone before we recovered it. 1t should have been called a touch back” Two Linesmen Overruled. Joe Neikirk, the North Carolina center, who recovered a team mates tumble in the end zone claimed that two linesmen officials called the play a touchback, but that they were overruled by Blake. After the game, the battered Blake was not available for comment. and bruised North Carolina play ers trudged into their dressing room still breathing fire. Never mind that score, boys” shouted Fullback Billy Hayes, 1T was the breaks that beat us lothing else”
