Tennessee ShockIes Justice, Whips North Carolina, 35–6 the powerful end, Art Weiner, benched by a combination of stomach trouble and an injured foot. But fundamentally Justice was not up to his usual form and Ten nessee never let anyone else get going. Justice not only failed to score, but his miscues helped Ten nessee materially. To start the second period he caught Little ford’s high punt on his goal line and slipped and was downed on the spot. He kicked out feebly and Tennessee marched to a touch down. A moment later Justice fumbled with the ball on North Carolina s 3 and Hayes recovered behind the goal line. giving Tennessee a safety. Then a little later he tried a pass that Fullback Gordon Polofsky intercepted on the North Carolina %. Halfback Hank Lauricella promptly passed to Rechichar for touchdown. The game was slowed down by arguments and penalties to the annoyance of the capacity crowd of $4,000. North Carolina was set back a total of IS yards and Tennessee 100 yards.

BEHIND HOME PLATE With the Hagerstown High School Hubs being rained out in last weeks game with Fort Hill in Cumberland, they have had two full weeks in which to get ready for the game at the stadium tomorrow night with the Montgomery-Blair School eleven of Silver Spring, and I’m looking for Mel Henry’s boys to rack up their second win of the season. The Hubs have had pretty tough schedule for a young team, and al though they have lost their last four games, they have been far from dis graced in any of them. From all l have been able to hear about the Silver Spring boys, while they will be tough, they should not give the Hubs too much trouble. College football passed the half way mark on Saturday, and this time there were not SO many up sets. At our own University of Mary land, the boys had an easy time beating South Carolina AT, and of course, as was expected, Notre Dame romped over the Navy 400, with the Annapolis lads giving every thing they had in the first quarter, but then being overwhelmed by the superiority of the great Notre Dame team. While the score of the Tennessee win over North Carolina (35–6) was unexpected, l wasn’t bit surprised that Coach highlands squad took North Carolina into camp. To me the North Carolina team is just an other proof that when there is one outstanding star on team-in N. Cardinals case, “Choo Choo” Justice they don’t have much chance if the star player is bottled up, and Neyland is a past master at doing Just that The two most exciting games of the day were Pittsburgh’s 1921 win over Pennsylvania and Southern Methodist’s 7–6 win over Texas. Both games were packed with thrills for the entire four quarters, and it was only fitting that in the South Methodist game Doak Walker, who had been sidelined for sometime with illness and is an All American if ever there was one, kicked the extra point that won the game. Out on the coast, California clear ed a tough hurdle in its drive for the Rose Bowl when they swarm ed all over UCLA to win by score of 1921. .... This Saturday, the game l want to hear is between Navy and Tulane, and despite the fact that the experts are picking Tulane, l am looking for Navy to bounce back and once more get into the win column. Congratulations to the Smithsburg team in the Washington County League on winning the final game of the play-offs with Williamsport on Sunday. Although, when the series started Williamsport was heavy favorite they proved to be no match for the winners. And the final game was never in doubt. Now all that remains to wind up the best season the league has ever held under the presidency of Paul Macy, is the annual banquet, the date of which will be announced by Paul in the near future.
