Big Green Completes Slam Over Big Three With 33–13V Victory DartmOuth’S T-formatlOn attack, cleverly guided by John Clayton, completely befuddled Princeton’s tired Tigers as the green-clad team from New Hampshire swept to 33-to-13 victory today. The triumph in the final game of the season for both teams COM pleted Dartmouth’s conquest Of the Big Three”-the first time that feat had been accomplished since 1888. Dartmouth had whipped both Harvard and Yale, just as the Tigers had done, to win the Big Three championship for the second year in a row. The game, played on field that was in surprisingly good condition after heavy overnight rains, produced the usual Ivy League mixture of clever and inept football. And it wound up with the traditional undergraduate battle for the goal posts at the open end of the sta dium. The other posts fell to q marauding band of “townies” before the last play of the game. A ma jority of the crowd of 10000 stayed until the posts came down and dis played almost as much enthusiasm for the fighting as for the football. Lose Interest in Game. As . matter of fact, the game became too lopsided to be very in teresting long before the end. Princeton, outplayed in the line and outslickered by Clayton’s clever ball handling. made fight of it f6 the first half but faded badly in the second. The Tigers were, handicapped severely by the fact that Wingback George Sella, their fastest and most effective ball carrier, was unable to play. Sella suffered pulled tendon in scrimmage Thursday and didn’t get into the game. Where Princeton’s attack worked only by fits and starts. Dartmouth’s worked by Fitkin and Sullivan, in addition to Clayton’s clever ball handling and his passing, which was good for 1873 yards on eight competitions. Halfbacks Hal Fitkin and Joe Sullivan did some running that was just too much for the Tigers to stop. Fitknn, tougher OF the two, bulled his way for go yards on ten rushes. Penalties Hurt Princeton. Trailing by only one touchdown, 1876, at the half, Princeton matched score for score in the third quarter. But in the final period the Hanover Indians drove 81 yards for one touchdown, then they added another when Bill Dey intercepted a Val Wegner pass and dashed II yards with the aid of a smashing block by Sullivan. Two 15-yard penalties against the Tigers figured prominently in Dart mouths scoring. After Dartmouth | had gone 68 yards in ten plays for the first tally and Princeton had matched it with a 70-yard drive, the next Indian drive appeared to be stopped But the Tigers piled into Kicker Bob Tyler after a punt and were penalized Is yards. That gave Dartmouth a first down on the 21-yard line and set up the second score. Almost the same thing happened at almost the same spot early in the third quarter. only this time the charge was illegal use of hands. The result was Dartmouth’s third touchdown. Princeton got that one back when Dartmouth’s defenders we’re caught using their hands few minutes later. The penalty was an important part of the Tigers IT. yard drive that ended with a 26yard pass from Wagner to Cliff Kurrus. Finish Third in Ivy League. The other Tiger touchdown went to Fullback John Weber, who could !, not make much headway against the Dartmouth line today Dartmouth’s 6-pointers went to Bill Dey, Clayton, Sullivan and Dey in that order. Dey also converted !, three extra points. ! The game was the 18th between these ivy-festooner rivals. who have been meeting since 1897. 1t was Dartmouth’s 10th victory against Is defeats and tie. The Indians thus wound up their season with third place in the Ivy League clinched | and an all-over record of six vic tories and three losses. Princeton finished with A record. ! DARTMOUTH.
