Unbeaten Penn State Impressive in 20–7. Win Over Middies Lions Stick to Ground, Puzzle Rivals With Tricky Reverse BY MerreiI WhittIesey 4 BALTIMORE, Nov. Is. - Penn State called for recount in the voting for the Nations top college elevens today when the Nittany Lions brushed aside Navy, 20–7. before $4,000 hardy souls who shivered in a. cold rain in Municipal Sta dium. With Penn and Georgia Tech removed from the list of unbeaten, united teams, the Lions leaped into a more select group and within one game against Pitt) of their first perfect season since 1912. Penn State was unbeaten but tied in 1921. This was no moral victory for Navy. The Middies compared favorably in statistics, but in touch downs they trailed most of the way and when Penn State took 13point lead after 2l2 minutes, Of the third quarter they locked the door behind them. Lions Toss Only Two Passes. Penn State took one look at the sloppy underfooting and decided the day was not meant for the forward pass. So the Lions stuck to their single wing and struck at Navy through the middle Of the line and on sweeping reverses, tossing only two passes all day. The State college team, which was en- route to a new collegiate record with only 61.6 yards per game gained against 1t by seven oppenents, lost ground by giving up 2l7 yards to Navy, but that was of little consequence. This was the ball game they wantetd to win in answer to critics who ridiculed their COM paratively weak schedule, and they did 1t in impressive fashion. Penn States favorite play was a reverse, with jeff Durkota. the big senior fullback, the final ball car rier. Late in the first period Dur kota plucked the ball on the Navy 4S, gained ground while the befuddled Middies realized they were chasing the wrong man, then streaked down the driest footing he could find for a touchdown without hand laid on him. Again early in the third period the Lions called for the same play, this time from the Navy A. Two backs slapped at the ball, Durkota took it and hit for the sidenne. He needed blocking this time and pa tiently waited for his interference to take out Navy tacklers and still had time to score standing up for his 10th touchdown of the season. Czekaj Adds Extra Points. A former George Washington University end. Ed Czekaj, added his 29th and 30th placements of the season after both Durkota touchdowns. He kicked the point after States second touchdown, but the Lions were holding and finally missed a pass for the point. The Lions middle touchdown halfway through the second period was a Bobby Williams production after the Lions reached the 13. A slightly built fellow. Williams hit the line seven straight tipes, the

REMAIN UNBEATEN TEAM in EAST BALTIMORE, Nov. 15.-(P- The Nittany Lions of Penn State crushed Navy 20–7 in the rain, mud and cold today, proving without any doubt their rating among the nations top elevens as they remained the only undefeated, united major football club in the east. With the line battling Nays powerful forward wall on better than even terms, Penn State dis played a brilliant offensive considering the sticky going and scored in all but the final quarter. Navy knotted the count z all once in the second quarter. Two perfectly executed reverse plays, both engineered by full back Joe Colone to halfback jeff Durkota, who galloped through
