Hoyas Attain High Local Ranking Possibly we here in Washington have fall tered a little in paying proper h o m a g e t o Georgetown’s position in the local football picture, now that all others except t h e Hoyas and Maryland have laid away their gadgets in the cam phor balls. The Hilltoppers left today to play Miami in the Magic City Friday night, and from what can be learned of the Ever glades outfit there is no particular certainty as to the out come. Meanwhile Maryland plays Western Maryland in Baltimore Saturday to end the year for both. But what I would emphasize in today’s greeting, because think the fact hasn’t had near the proper focus, is that Georgetown deserves high place among the five major colleges in the immediate Washington terrain, rated off its games to date. One More RiUer Hagerty’S HuSsars come down to their final game with about as enviahle a record as their very fondest doters could wish for them. If they can hurdle the Miamians Friday, there should be genuine cause for rejoicing up yonder on the Potomac’S heights. Indeed, the Hilltoppers, in my mind, sort Of forged to the front Of the local football gentry through sheer idleness on Thanks giving Day, when any number Of them no doubt shivered in Grit. fifth Stadium while George Wash. ington struggled to score a last quarter 7-to-2 victory over West Virginia. Since Georgetown had previously smothered West Virginia under a commodious 28-to-0 score, the Colonials’ failure to equal, or better such a comfortable margin over the Mountaineers, rather automatically sent the Hoyas hur. tling to the top of the domestic Incorporating comparatively, of course. CoLonials’ Great Push AS the trapped fans trudged stiff-jointedly out of Griffith Sta dium to go home to turkey entrees, hot or cold, the thought must have been uppermost in their minds that while they had seen a fiercely fought battle, with Messrs. Pixlee and Reinhart pull ing their potatoes out of the fire in the last, hectic minutes of play, after all Georgetown had made much shorter work of the Morgan town Marauders, and therefore by the common yardstick Of compar ing football teams which do not actually face, deserved niche in local rating slightly higher than any team here. In actual losses and ties, George town and George Washington are even, the Colonials having been beaten by Rice and the Hoyas by q great Manhattan machine. Each, too, ha a tie on its blotter and 50 the vast difference in George towns % to defeat of west Virginia and George Washington’s 7 to 2 defeat thereof creates about the only daylight that can be seen between these two splendid teams which have entertained Washing ton no end this season. Not Just Splitting Hairs You might say in rebuttal to so direct a statement that it comes in the nature of hair-splitting, and IN-A.-.J No. NJ ~ ~
