Harvard Gets Down to Work For Struggle With Bull Dog Eleven in Good Physical Disappointment Over Showing of Substitutes – Against Brown. 81. CAMBRIDGE. Nov. it.--with q thorough undepstaneing that Yale will bring . lot Of powerful foot ball 10 the stadium this week. the Harvard coaches got down. TO hard tanks this afternoon with the var sity team which viii strive 70 make amends for its defeat by the Tigers By beating the eleven which was 20 impressive at New Haven on saturdAS The aches figure their eleven will b N much better physical trim than tyo weeks ago, and also In better shape than the Tigers we’re Saturday aftsrnoon. seven Of the varsity men saw the game. a. dlI all the older coaches. including Bob Fisher. and while the Blue 10 rated high. still with It’s forward passing and its rushing strateeIes the Cambridge cause 10 believed 70 be far from q hopeless one by the scouts who have followed Yale all year. As the final week starts. however, there 10 much disappointment over the showing Of the Harvard substitutes against Brown University, particularly over the poor tackling and the fact that the men were not able to keep. in the game and make a showing that Indicated good condition. Brown caused the loss Of two Of the Harvard FIRST substitute end rushers. Field and Janin. Both were fast and had been making very rapid progress These two wings, who would have been the first substitutes for Croker and Macomber. are out of the run ming for the season. Field broke HIS knee and there is no chance for him to play. and Janin hurt his elbow severely. and he also 10 not being figured on any longer. Harvard keeps six wings going with the varsity string. and Crosby and Hartley are the ones that are left now. Hartley did very well or Saturday. and In fact has been showing the coaches that raising him from the second team was war ranted. Crosby needs experience Lockwood. who has been at tackle may now be put back on a wing where he has played from time 70 time since his football career at Harvard began. He is very fast. but all year his possibilities for substituting at tackle have been rated as better than those for end play. Last week enough work was done with the hrst-strinE men 20 keep them mentally active and to provide enough work to help them along with their condition. Harvard has not q very rugged outfit this fall. at best. but this week the eleven surely will be in better shape for u hard game than II was at Prince
