M|DSH|PMEN MAKE RECORD SCORE IN BEATING URS|NUS First Time In History Of The Game That They Have Passed The Century Mark VISITORS ARE LIGHT BUT GAME TO THE END Ingram, Butler And Rawlings, Star Ground Gamers, And Forward Pass Counts Not until Saturday, according to those who have been in close touch with athletics at the Naval Academy for many years, has the football team of the midshipmen passed the CEN tury mark in scoring against an opposing team, but that is what they did against Ursinus on Saturday, the final figure being 127 to 0. Up to then, the high figure had been 95, scored against Western Reserve last year. On Saturday, the hundred mark was passed in the third quarter. 1t might have gone to $50 or 200, had Dobie been out for record score, but that is not the way he plays the game. Twenty-six points were scored in the first quarter, and 40, which is very fast scoring, in the second. Then, a lot of second string men were run in, and the pace slackened a little. 1t was also not generally known that there was only 40 minutes of actual playing-12 minute quarters in the first half, and 5 minutes in the second, and anyone could see that the mid shipmen were not really extending themselves. At first, the gallery of midshipmen were entirely sympathetic with the light, but plucky visitors. For it was entirely outclassed in a physical way, and the game furnished an argument for the proposition that football play ers might be classed by weight, just as boxers and wrestlers. Nearly every one felt that it was sort of shame that the Ursinus players, averaging about $50 pounds, and with several who did not appear to weigh over 134, should have to contend against the huskies on the Naval team. AS the score began to pile up, somebody remembered that the high score for the year was 12S, made by Georgia Tech against the North Carolina Aggies, and everybody was urging the team to pass the mark 1t looked as if they would do it too, and it is certain that they would had not the time of periods been cut short There is nothing much that can be said about the game, except that the visitors did the best they could to the very end, and never cried, ‘Kamarad.’ . But they could not stop the powerful rushes of Ingram, who was at top form, or the plunges of Butler, or Rawlings, or Coombs, either as to that matter. They had nothing in the way Of an attack themselves, and al together put up sorry game, barring always their pluck and stamina, which equalled anybody’s. Ingram, particularly, Weighing close to $50 pounds, and fast and hard knocked the visitors right and left as he ran down the field After Ingram, Rawlings probably rated mention as tCOntinued ON Page ~
