NAVY IS vANQU|sHED IN SATURDAYS GAME Ursinus Contests Every Inch Of Ground and Wins, 10 to Z. DAMPENS MIDDIES’ SPIRITS Makes Navy Team Look Bad 70 Annual Battle With West Point. with the Dig lnter-SerNlce chahpionship game with West Point just one week away, Navy closed the local foot ball season by taking a 10 to Z defeat from little Ursinus College Saturday afternoon. The visiting Pennsylvania collegians were oueweighed and had nothing in the way of varied attack, but still had the sailors on the defensive before the first fifteen minutes of play ended. Time after time they bored holes through the Navy line and skirted the sailor ends for fifteen and twenty vars. After each had scored in the initial period, and then blanked each other through the second and third stanzas. Ursinus held for downs inside her g. yard line and punted to midfield in the last period. Failing muffed the kick, which rolled to the Navy 5-yard line before it was finally recovered by the visitors. After three unsuccessful line plunges, the visitors booted place ment goal over three winning points. In spite of the confidence that seems to pervade the regiment of midshipmen and the officers attached to the reservation, and although some of the regulars did not get into the hostilities, the result of Saturdays game could not help but throw something of damper on the Navy’s prospects over next Saturdays big struggle with the soldiers. Ursinus brought fight ing team to Annapolis and the players contested every inch of ground. Some of the regular Navy players were withdrawn from the lineup, as their physical condition was not the best, but enough of the first team men were on the field to make the eleven q thoroughly representative one. Mar tin and Craig undeniably the best backs at the Academy, started the game and played during a large part of it. The Middies made their only score in the early part of the first period. Getting the ball on Ursinus’s 45-yard line, a forward pass from Craig to Jackson, netted gain of % yards. Line plunges and off-tackle plays did the rest Martin made the touchdown and Vail kicked the goal In the second period the visitors reg isterer a touchdown and the resultant goal under much the same proceedings as the Middies scored. The Middies made determined stand in the shadow of their goal posts, but they could not stop the hard-plunging Kickline. The only sustained attack of the afternoon from the Navy’s standpoint was at the opening of the game. Vail and Martin gained continually, and with some help from Craig, had no diff ficulty in getting the ball down the field The work of the team during the remainder of the game was spasmodic. In the final quarter, with Blodgett or Failing throwing the ball, and Jackson generally on the receiving end, the longest gain on that style of plays made by the Navy team this year were accomplished On the other hand, these plays and all others, failed when it was necessary for them to succeed in order to Sc cure a score. IT was this fact that was most disconcerting for the friends of the Navy team, particularly as the backfield combination which will be used against West Point has sell dom played together, and is not likely to show much smoothness in action. Usinus used with much success a | play on tackle, in which the interference for an endT un was faxed. 1t | pierced either Navy’s tackle time after | time. Light and Kichline were the best grcund-gainers OF the visitors Light also punted excellently, and much ground was made through the falling down of the Navy backs. The visitors did not have a strong tack ling team, but the Navy players often saved trouble by falling down when / no one was near them. Lineup and summary: Navy Ursinus. | Won Heimburg. Left End CLARK | Ward. ..... Left Tackle CLARK i Smith Of CrarH

URSINUS WINS ERRATIC GAME FROM THE NAVY Field Goal in Last Three Minutes Is Margin of Victory. Annapolis, Md, Nov. 20.-A goal from the field, kicked three minutes before the close of the contest, by Shaub, Of the visitors, gave Ursinus the game by a score of 10 to over the Naval Acadenvy this afternoon. The result was a source Of chagrin to Navy people, who had not considered Ursinus dangerous, and the erratic playing of the Navy men made them feel that only miracle can bring victory over West Point next Saturday. Several of the regulars did not play this afternoon, but their places were taken by men who have done almost as good work. while Mar tin and Craig, the undoubted stars Of the Navy backiield and others of their best men, were in the game during most Of it’s course. The opportunity 10 settle the game in its favor came to Ursinus under unusual circumstances. After Blodgett had Used rather easy chance for a field goal from placement in the same quarter Ursinus intercepted forward pass and took the ball on their own lo-yard line. Standing on his own o. yard line Light punted to Failing in iridfeld. The Navy back had TO reach for the ball and Knocked it in the air, giving it impetus toward the Navy goal at the same time. Players Of both sides scrambled for the ball, and it was kept being pushed nearer the Navy goal line. Eventually Clark, Ursinus’s left end. fell on the ball on the Nays l0-yard line. Fail, ing to gain, placement kick was tried by Shaub, and the ball hit one OF the uprights, but crossed the bar safely. The Navy team showed its only sus.. tanning ground gaining at the end OF the game. With Vail and Martin doing the most of the carrying. the ball was taken steadily down the field, Martin carrying it across for touchdown. Ursinus OO). Position. NaNai Aeauen.y w. W.,
