MURPHY IS NOT OUT NAVY ALL THE WAY| 0utpIays and Defeats Ursinus by One Sided Score, 80 to 2. sEC0ND-sTRING MEN USED Last Game of Season Before Middies Meet Army Eleven Next Saturday. g ANNAPOLIS, Md, November 21.-With team made up largely of second string men, the Annapolis Midshiprnen won from Ursinus College of Pennsy1vania on the gridiron here this after noon by a score of 33 to 2. 1t was the last game of the season for Navy before the all-important contest with the West Point Cadets next Saturday. and the Navy contingent Is well pleased with the work of the Middies. Though defeated by so decisive a score, the Penn sylvanians made very creditable showing. Only once during the game, however, did they seriously endanger the Navy goal line. That was In the last five minutes of play. when Schaub, who by the way played brilliant game at left halfback.. intercepted a Navy forward pass and made a brill liant run of 40 yards and was not downed until he had reached the Navy 10-yard mark. The visitors made a valiant EFFORT to cross the Navy goal, bringing the forward pass into play when they found they could not make much headway through the line, but the alert Middies frustrated their every attempt. They advanced the ball to the 5-yard line and lost on downs. I’m mediately afterward, however, they managed to chalk up two points, when Smith made a wide pass to Culbert, who Navy goal line. .Schaub was on the Navy man like a flash, and thus Ursinus tailed a safety. Visitors Start Well. The visitors got away to a wiirlwind start, and for time. it looked as though they would give the Middies much trouble. but their progress was soon checked. After this one burst of speed the Middies assumed the often sive and tore through the Ursinus line and skirted the ends almost at will. In the first period, they registered two touchdowns. from which one of the goals was kicked. In the second period the visitors seemed much stronger. and held the Sailors without a score. But in the second half the Middies had things all their own way, with the exception of the closing min utes OF play, when the Pennsylvanians gave them the one big scare. Neither Miles or Mitchell, the first choice man for quarterback. was In the Navy line up today. Vail was chosen for the job. and he drove the team in fine style; and his good work in other respects is indicated by the fact that he scored four of the five touchdowns His end running and handling of punts also were features Blodgett, the regular left halfback and the best punter OF the squad, as well as goal kicker, did not get into the game at ALL Incl dentally. Alexander, an understudy, played a fast game and gained ground regularly. Failing was at the other half at the start and was bulwark. Many Subs Sent In. Numerous substitutions were made in the course OF the game however Bates played nearly the whole game at full back, and continued the good work shown in the contest with Colby last Saturday. He was strong on the desensive, and also ripped through the visiting line for substantial gains. On one occasion he tore through for a sprint of 20 yards. 1t Is generally believed by those who have followed the progress of the Middies through the season that Bates will be the final selection for fullback, displacing H. Harrison, a veteran of two seasons. He has played a stronger game than Harrison lately, and, furthermore. Har. rison has been confined to the sick list. Culbert was substituted for Bates in the second half, and he, too. played a very aggressive game. For ursinus. the all-round work Of Schaub, Ken nedy and Bowman was excellent. The hard and sure ‘tackling Of Kennedy, the quarterback, was especially good. Both teams played old time foot ball for the greater part of the game. Each, however, essayed the forward pass on half. The Navy get away with two long ones. between Culbert and T. Harrison. while the visitors were success TConfinna6 On Eac0nN Parel
