South Carolina trailed 7–0 in Gainesville. Then LaNorris Sellers helped turn the game into a 38–19 road win. Four touchdown passes went to four different receivers; he added a fifth score on the ground.
Before the Gamecocks, there were the South Florence Bruins. Sellers grew up in Florence, South Carolina, and led South Florence High to a 4A state championship under coach Drew Marlowe. As a senior, he threw 45 touchdown passes and ran for 17 more, according to his South Carolina biography.
Against Florida on October 10, Sellers completed 23 of 35 passes for 279 yards and added 20 rushing yards. The SEC named him Co-Offensive Player of the Week after the performance.
Florence’s connection to that five-touchdown afternoon is specific: the quarterback who won a title at South Florence is now producing those moments for the Gamecocks.
