Tramell Jones Jr.’s route to Florida’s quarterback room began at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville. Now his name is at the center of a much larger stage.
Jones made his first college start at Texas on October 17. ESPN reported the assignment before kickoff, and the game’s play-by-play records him taking Florida’s first offensive series. A week earlier, he had completed six of eight passes for 40 yards and an interception in relief against South Carolina.
Florida’s biography records 7,197 passing yards and 75 touchdowns during his high-school career, along with an Elite 11 finals appearance. Those are the Mandarin roots of the player taking Florida’s first snap in Austin. His next chapter is being written on the field; this one starts in Jacksonville.
