Forty-one carries is a workload. For Navy against Tulsa on October 10, it belonged to the quarterback. Jackson Gutierrez ran for 232 yards and three touchdowns, adding a passing touchdown in a 34–26 win.
Gutierrez graduated from John Jay High in San Antonio in 2024. His father, Gary, coached at John Jay for 13 years before moving to Seguin in 2026. Navy’s next trip takes Jackson back to San Antonio for the October 17 game at UTSA.
The Tulsa game was not spotless: Gutierrez threw an interception and lost two fumbles. Navy still came back to win, with a quarterback whose 41 rushing attempts were the most by a Midshipman since Ricky Dobbs carried 42 times against SMU in 2008, according to PressBox.
The homecoming is on the schedule; another start is not promised. Gutierrez started against Tulsa while Braxton Woodson was sidelined with an ankle injury. That distinction matters as Navy prepares for UTSA.
