Andre Porter’s father played defense for UNLV. On October 10, the Las Vegas native and Liberty High graduate supplied the Rebels’ only touchdown: a 23-yard interception return in a 13–7 win over North Dakota State.
The defensive lineman scored in the opening quarter at Allegiant Stadium. UNLV and North Dakota State were tied at halftime; 2 second-half field goals decided it. Porter also recorded a sack and a forced fumble, giving the Rebels more than one way to take the ball away.
His UNLV biography says both parents attended the university and his father, Donnell, lettered on defense in the early 1990s. At Liberty, Andre played tight end as well as defense under Rich Muraco. Catching the ball was already part of his game. This time, a Liberty graduate carried it into a college end zone in his hometown.
