GREEN AND ORANGE BOTH FAIL TO SCORE Dartmouth and Syracuse Hold for Downs Whenever Danger Threatens. PLAY ON MUDDY FIELD SYRACUSE. n. Y. Nov. 20.-Dartmouth and Syracuse played a scoreless tie on a field heavy with mud this afternoon. Syracuse held the advantage throughout until the final two minutes OF play, when Holbrook. a Dartmouth substitute quarterback. carried the oval to the Syracuse 4 yard mark. An opportune penalty for holding and the fierce resistance OF tn. Orange eleven made Dartmouth relinquish possession Of the ball and the crisis WAS over. During the first period Syracuse had the ball in Dartmouth territory continually, and In the second quarter Brown. a Syracuse substitute fullback, recovered a fumbled punt and carried the ball to the Dartmouth I yard line. where the Green held for downs. Fol lowing an exchange Of kicks. Wilkinson, Rose and Meehan again worked the ball down to the Dartmouth l yard mark. where once more 1t was ~relinquished on downs. The Dartmouth line was no match for the Syracuse forwards. but the Green backfeld appeared slightly faster. Thielscher. Gerrish and Dusossoit played good football for the Green and Wilkinson. Rose. Brown and Meehan all made gains for the Orange. Fuinbles were so fire. Quent that the ball continually changed hands. The Dartmouth team was the worst offender, hut many OF the fumbles were directly chargeable to the high wind and slippery condition OF the bail. An individual battle on the line between Spears OF Dartmouth and Schlachter Of Syracuse resulted In a slight triumph for the Orange forward. Sc%hlachter out played the Dartmouth star. several times breaking through the Green line to nail runner before they could get started.
