NAVY FEELS BETTER AT TER COLBY GAME Coaches; Seeing Army Meet Maine, Believe Middies Have Chance of Victory. ANNAPOLIS. Nov. 16.-Arguing from the fine work Of the Naval Academy team in the second half Of Saturday 8 game against the strong Colby eleven on Saturday, members Of the Navy contiIgont feel that they will enter the Army contest with a fair chance Of sue cess. Two of the Navy coaches saw the Army’s game against the University of Maine on Saturday, and their report as to the possibility of Navy victory this Year is by no means discouraging. In fact, while the strength of the military lads this year is admitted, that team is having its troubles. and at present it does not seem to be working as well as might have been expected, while the eleven has suffered more than the mid shipmen from injuries to the players. However no one at the Naval Academy is counting on any Army weaknesses, but the most determined effort will be local eleven into a perfect football ma chine. The development Of the backfield cam didates at Annapolis has been more use cessful than could have been expected at the beginning Of the season. Blodgett. the former star of the New York High School of Commerce, has develattack. In spite Of his 1s6 pounds he is very fast, and his Improvement this season has been great. His punting equals that of any Of the college punt ers this year. and his passes sometimes reach sixty yards. Miles and Mitchell have both shown great brilliancy as runners with the ball. and the final choice at the quarterback position is in doubt. and made more so by Mitch ellis fine showing against Colby on SATURDAY.. Rsfes showed himself such a brilliant ground gamer on Saturday that he must be given consideration for the full eran II. Harrison HAD been considered fixture in the position. Craig, who has done the most brilliant end running Of any OF the Navy backs this season, with the possible exception of Miles. did not play on Saturday, because Of a minor injury, but Failing, the big fellow who has been at left half most of the season. did so well, that the coaches may not carry out their intention OF giving Craig the first choice for the position. Failing hurled his hundred and ninety pounds at the Colby line in a way that insured material gains, and be always had the punch to gain yards when yards were most necessary to gain Collins Is another good backfield man who must be given consideration in the final selection. There is much disappointment over the complete failure of the Navy team to work it’s long forward pass with any success. The Navy has in Blodgett q mighty HEAVIER of the ball. but in no case .yesterday-and the play was tried q half dozen times-was a midshipman n in place to get the ball. Colby had great success with the play, as it las throughout the season. and ole Of it’s players. when asked by a naval officer connected with the team. gave his views as to why the Navy was not successful with the play. He said that it appeared to him that the play was based entirely on one end getting into position to receive the pass, whereas those teams that had been successful with the play had a passer who could pick out one of several men who could take the ball, and pass it to the one who seemed in position to take il successfully and with the best chance of telling results This criticism may have some effect upon the subsequent use of the Dlav BY the NAVY team. The coaches have not been able to ill right end successfully Armstrong, Fischer and T. Harrison were tried there Saturday. and Colby gained around all of them. though with less success against Harrison. Jackson. W ho did some promising work there, is at present on the hospital list, but his iservices viii probably be ‘availa ole about the middle Of the week

WH|RLW|ND GAME MARKS DEFEAT OF COLBY, Maine CHAMPS, BY NAVY 31–21 Annapolis, Md, Nov 15-There has been no finer and more interesting game of football at the Naval Acadenvy for many years than Saturdays contest in which the midshipmen. greatly outplayed in the first half, finally hewed and hacked out a VIC tory by the score of 81 to 81. Colby with its clever backs, Cawley Low ney and Paul Frazer, was too fast for the Middies in the opening half. The points scored were q to 10 in favor of the visitors and so snappy was the work of the Maine champions that the Navy team was far from being up to it’s standard. Runs of over 40 yards were not unusual, the palm going to Lovingly who scored the third touchdown for Colby after a run of rs yards. Beside the brilliant running of the Colby backs, their clever forward passing and the valorous and success full effort of the Navy team to redeem its bad start the game was notable for the perfect craftsmanship which characterized. There was not a dis play of i’ll temper or undue roughness in spite of the intense rivalry which was displayed. Penalties We’re few and those imposed rather for technical and unintentional infringements OF the rules rather than deliberate volations. The game was one long ID be remembered and nothing has en- Unused the Navy crew so much this year as the dash and spirit of a team which could change defeat to victor as its team did Saturday afternoon. Colby scored in the first three min utes of the game and practically on two runs. Blodgetts kick off went into touch” but was run back for yards by Cawley. An exchange If punts between p. Frazer and Blodgett gave Colby the advantage of 10 yards and Lowney ran nearly the length of
