ALABAMA’S ONLY CHANCE TO SCORE With the score 20 to 0 against them, Alabama again rushed their heavier opponents and really threatened the Georgia goal for the only time during the game. A series of clever off tackle plays. coupled with two material gains by Captain VandeGraaff, placed the ball on Georgia’s 10-yard line. Stickney netted yards, and it looked as IL the Crimson would score. Georgia tight ened, however. and plunging into an i’m pregnable line VandeGraaff fumbled. Georgia recovered and never again had the Crimson a chance. Alabama won the toss and Captain Hargrove VandeGraaff chose the north ern goal with the wind at his back Soon after the whistle blew and the teams lined up for the commencing of hostilities. Powell of Georgia kicked off, and Nor ton, catching the oval returned It a short distance. Several plunges for short gains We’re made by the Crimson and White eleven, after which Captain VandeGraaff broke through the opposing line for five yards and first down. After several ineffectual attempts to gain Alabama kicked and Georgia regained the ball on her own 35-yard line. The Red and Black back field swing ing into action. ripped the opposing line repeatedly for short gains. and before the Crimson warriors regained the ball Georgia had made two first downs. With the ball once more in their posses sion the Alabama eleven began steady march toward the Georgia goal Harsh went around right end for 15 yards, while Long bucked the line for short gain. A long plunge by VandeGraaff netted Ala bama her second first down. Long again bucked the line, this time for three yards, and Harsh followed him with six-yard gain. Another short buck and Alabama scored her third first down. Harsh went through the Georgia line for several yards and prospects were exceedingly bright for touchdown, but on the next play the ball went over on the failure of a forward pass. With McWhorter carrying the ball, Georgia made a strenuous effort to pierce the Crimson line, but the effort was a failure, and McWhorter was thrown with out gaining. Again MeWhorter attempt ed to buck the line, but his progress was impeded by Harsh, and the Georgia cap tain failed to make a gain. The Georgians then punted and Hagan fumbled the ball but made rapid recovery.
