III OF M.-CASE GAME AND N. A C.-ALMA CONTEST AUGUR AGGIES’ DEFEAT Michigan Has Two Men, Thompson and Wells, Whom No Or binary Defense Can Stop. AZ. A. C. LACKS STAR. Showing Of Local Prep School Saturday Is Disappointing, But Not Discouraging. M. A. c. LACKS STAR. BY RALPH L. YoNkER. The Michigan–Case game was not exciting. From the very first IL locked like big Meechigan year, Xknow. While Case was not strong, Jet their system Of defense was well planned and had Michigan stalled at nret But nine superior men besides Thompson and Wells on the field, made any system useless to stave on tefeat. With just a casual sweep OF the predictoscope Il looks like a one-game season for the Maize and Blue. Pennsy Will undoubtedly put up a fight, but the rest OF the schedule ought to be easy. The showing of the Michigan Az giles against last years intercollegiate champions, Alma, at East Lansing. in their first game, was not encouraging 70 M. A. G. boosters In their advance views OF rext Saturdays battle. AT the first of the season, the teams or minor colleges are never very strong, and two touchdowns against Alma is not a whole lot II shows that NJ. A. X g. has no wonderful man who Is going 10 break through for long gains, no star who must be watched. Without some one man who can score against heavy odds. NJ A. G. is hopeless, for With Bottles” Thompson and Wells. Michigan has a pair that are almost sure to get away from any ordinary defense For the encouragement OF Agriculfuralists, however. IL Is recalled that last years showing against the university was made after an IL TO y came with the Presbyterians. On the other hand. Case held Michigan tied. So, there you are. First games between the high school And smaller college football teams are a. general thing no criterions OF what will follow before the season 10 over. because In the smaller schools noiv a couple OF weeks OF preliminary work n possible before the schedule terins and more actual football 10 lsorned I’m the opening games than In weeks Of practice. For this reason IL IL not safe to forecast that because Coach Frye’s men rot q big shock from the Pontiac homes. the season will not be In every way as successful as that OF last wear. when Coldwater held the Elm 1tood-ave. boys to q scoreless tie In the first game Of the season. Coach 1 rive has had plenty OF experience In IeveIoping smoothly working ma !, chimes out OF crude material and as to0n az he can drum little football Wisdom into his quarterback, Anderson. the ID. u s. will be the equal or any o. them in the backfield and will have q very good line. a. - ohn nlrtoi Saturday, that IL has been playing out | ~ It’s class most OF the time, Tor II held to a scoreless tie in straight foot / ball, Adrian college, allowing the col lcxians to slip across q touchdown . when q Observation-Disclosures on the part nf the men playing back on punts permitted an Adrian kick to be recovered Adrian can thank their suspicious stars that they didn’t 60 back to their campus scorelees. II would be inter I esting to see what Central later In the season could do with some OF the ! stronger colleges on the gridiron. However. as their schedule Is con- | Ili1ed to high schools entirely, It looks like line OF easy victories. Eastern high. at Wyandotte, showed the invariable weakness that coaches have come to expect In nrst high school games: interference was lack | ing and the men did not follow the half. Although they had no trouble III trampling the suburban bunch LOT IS points, and holding them score less.
