eastern football teams rank today, according to Ted Coy, the famous Yale player and head coach. AS yet Harvard has not been scored on” Coy says, land has proved great ground gaining team. Her line is a heavy, heady machine of unknown power, but great power without doubt while her back field is as fast and clever as any working together this season. Yale has proved a disappointment throughout. It seems hardly possible with the material that she has at hand that she will prove up to the stuff at the end OF the season. New York and Boston papers give Dan McGugin’s Vanderbilt eleven credit for being a better trained and better playing eleven than Yale and claim that if the southern team had possessed punter, they would have defeated the fasteners in the first meeting between the two sections. The papers also credit the southerners with being the best kind of sportsmen, as ! time after time their rush for the Yale goal was stopped by heavy pen | atty. Vanderbilt is universally given credit for being the better eleven, and the Yale team will get little encouragement for their meeting with the J Harvard team except from their own supporters. Bad headwork on the part of the ale captain ana cOdcn are given d large part in the report of the game. The game is largely victory for Coach McGugin, who as the only west ern coach in the entire south has had to fight all of his associates, not only in the matter of football problems, but in the matter of officials, every Off ciaI in the south being an eastern man. McGugin was born and raised at Ting ley, Ia, received his academy and col legiate work at Drake, where he was later went to Michigan, where he was one of the great guards of that team. He has been coach at Vanderbilt for six years. in which time the team has lost but a single game. The Post says: | GLOON hung thick and heavy out at D. U. Saturday afternoon when it was announced that the Ministers had gone | down in defeat before the Cornhuskers | by a score of 27 to 0. Local enthuslasts were not expecting a D. U. VIC tory, but they hardly were prepared for a runaway score like that. Deacon Koehler probably figured that the team would jeopardize its chances for future games by putting up too stiff a defense against the Corn thuskers and advised his men to take things easy “To take things easy is rich with | humor. The Denver players as mat | ter of fact, We’re completely played out when the final whistle was sounded. Crowley, their hustling captain, was | on the verge of physical exhaustion. The Denver Times, meanwhile, resorts | to a deliberate fake. 1t printed the following yesterday: Coach Koehler and his Denver uni versity squad have no excuses to Of fer for their defeat at the hands OF Nebraska by score Of q to 0.
