NEBRASKA, SIXjDENVER, FIVE Cornhuskers Play in Best Form Since Minnesota Contest. EVERY MAN PROVES TO BE STAR Rail Kept I’m Opponents Territory During Greater Part of Game Denver scores During Brace. DenNer scores buEAhB Brace. DENVER, Nov. @-(special TeIcgram)- Nebraska humbled the proud Denver eleven by the score Of G to 5 in a fiercely fought battle at University park this afternoon, the Cornhuskers having a decided advant’ rge in the playing during the entire contest. Only costly fumbllrg kept the pupils Of king” Cole from rolling up three add. tional t%ouchdowns. once the ball was fumbled on the vineyard line Of the Denver eleven. after Frank had made a sensational run of thiNty-four yards. Twice before this the Cornhuskers muffed the ball when within the Denver ten-ysrd line. Play during both halves was in Denver’s territory for the greater share Of the time, and only for five minutes in the second session, when the local eleven scored, did Denver consistently play in the Cornhuskers’ territory. Nebraska made its touchdown toward the close Of the opening half, when Right Tackle Temple picked up a high punt Of Schroeder’s and raced twenty yards for the Ministers goal Captain Beltzer booted the ball out from the goal line and Frank caught It, following this catch with a goal Il at gave his team six points. Denver scored after fifteen minutes Of play in the second half by blowing through the Nebraska line after getting the ball on the thirty-yard line. Crowley carried the ball over and Schroeder failed to kick goal. Before the game the dope predicted that Denver’s powerful back field would be able to tear through the Cornhusker line and circle its ends for long gains. With the exception Of the five minute when the Ministers were going for their touchdown, though, they found Nebrasks’s defense Inn pregnable. Crowley, right half. and Volk, left half, made some effective ground gains at right end, behind some excellent inter. ference, until the C~ornhuskers solved rhe play, and then they were checked all the time. COrnhuskers are stars. Nearly every man on the C~ornhusker eleven was a star and they probably played the best game they have put UP since they met Minnesota. Denver was very fast and strong and 1t took a strong eleven to stop the offensive plays. Franks long run and Elliott’s sensational tackle of Flke when the latter player was going for a touchdown were the spectacular plays Of the day. Franks run was made from the thirty-five yard line and 1t took the ball to the Denver vineyard line. The Nebraska quarter darted and lodged through the Denver line so fast that the local players could not stop him. His running was similar to that which made Denver famous at Nebraska. Elliott, who played right guard for VOL colt, and who was thought to be weaker | than XNnlnOft unNraA Nhn ~ fAw Nkz Cornhuskers, with one minute to play. Denver had the ball on its forty-yard line and tried a trick play. The center and left guard remained in their positions, while the quarter pretended he had the ball and made a fake at an end run. This drew all the Cornhuskers to one side, then the center passed the ball to Fike, left guard, who was racing for a goal, when Elliott downed him on the Denver Fifteen yard line. The entire Nebraska line played sansational ball. Big Shonks did some Of his famous smotherlng tackling and was a star from the sound of the whistle. Tenn pie, Ewing and Harte broke through the Denver line repeatedly and split up plays. Chauner and Johnson at ends did better work than in any other game of the season. Johnson, playing his last year, was a wonder. Good IN the Defense. Mayor and Rathbone, with Captain Belt ger, did some great defensive work. Mayor was a terror to every Minister. Rathbone drove holes in the Denver line for many gains Of six and seven yards. Volk, Crowley and Schroeder were Den ver’s backfield stars and they played SPLEEN did ball. Greene, center, and Brusz, quarterback. were other Denver stars. A strong wind, which blew from the west, gave all advantage to the team defending the west goal. 1t was impossible to boot the ball for greater distances than twenty or thirty-five yards in the face of this wind. Denver tried three forward passes, but all of them failed. Nebraska, on the other hand, essayed four, all of which were worked. The onside kick was recovered once by Nebraska. Nebraska won the toss and defended the west goal. Brusse kicked off to Rathbone. Nebraska tried a forward pass the first thing and it worked, Chauner receiving the ball from Better on the twenty-yard line. An exchange of Punts gave Nebraska the ball on Denver’s fifty-yard line. An onside kick by Better went over the goal line. The ball was put in play at the twenty five-yard line and Schroeder kicked 70 Frank on NebraskR’s forty-five-yard line. In the next exchange of punts Frank fumbled the ball and Denver had It on Ne braska’s forty-yard line. Denver could not gain and punted. The ball was Nebraska’s on its thirty Vineyard line. On one exchange Of punts Nebraska got the ball in tha center of the field. Nebraska Scores. After a few minutes more OF play, Ne braska had the ball on Denver’s thirty fve-yard line and Frank from a place kick formation tried an end run, but failed to gain. Temple, on a tackle around Mayor, carried the ball fifteen yards, but there was a tumble and Schroeder Of Den yer took It and punted TO Mayor at center Of the field. An on-slde kick, Better IA Chauner, placed the ball on Denver’s TWEEN, ty-fiye-yard line. on the next play there was a tumble and the Ministers took the ball. Schroeder punted from the fve-yard line and Temple caught the ball after II hit the ground and raced over the goa with il. Frank caught the kickout and kicked goal. Nebraska, G; Denver, o. Soon after Brusse kicked off for Denver time was up. At the opening OF the sec. ond half Rathbone kicked off and the bal went over the goal. line.
