MINNESOTA GETS WESTERN TITLE BY DEFEATING CHICAGO IN DEcISIVE MANNER GoPHERs WIN CHAMPIONSHIP OF CON- FERENCE SCHOOLS. Saturdays football offered no sur prises by defeating the University of Chicago team, Minnesota demonstrated its right to the title Of conference champions, but this result was gen orally expected, as Chicago is admit teddy weak this year. True the Gophers have yet to face Wisconsin, OF the conference schools, but the Badgers are no longer feared as in years gone by and there is little possibility OF Minnesota losing. Michigan defeated Syracuse as was expected. Coach Yost was not forced TO resort to new football TO defeat the Orange” and the game was marked by little brilliant play. The decisive defeat Of NOtre Dame By the Michisan Agricultural college practically puts the Catholics out of running for the western championship outside OF the conference colleges. II is now generally apparent that the football honors for the year 1910 lie between Yale. Harvard, Princeton Michigan and Minnesota in the west. The Pennsylvania Michigan game will offer the only basis of comparison between the relative strength Of the teams in the west and the teams i’m the east. AS this game does not occur until the latter part of the season, the honors until that time will be some what cloudcd. Saturdays Scores. Minnesota “a Chicago 0. u Illinois IL, Purdue o.
