COOLER WEATHER TO TIGERS ADVANTAGE Squad Being Worked Hard For the Ames Game Next Saturday. “AGG1ES” ARE A HOODOO Missouri Team Has Never More Than Tied the Iowa Farmers. | With a change in temperature that has made football weather, the Tigers are being worked harder than ever. The players are now kept on the field scrimmaging with the scrubs or fresh men every night until long after dark. The practices is still secret in prepare ton for the Ames game here Saturday. Ames slipped up” on Missouri year before last when the Tigers were overconfiGent from the Iowa victory and won the game 16 to 0. Last year Missouri played the “AggieS” in Iowa and the result of the game was a 10 | s tie. In 1886 Ames defeated the Ii gers l. to O. And SO it has been n all the games between these two teams. Missouri has nevei. in her foot ball history defeated Ames, though there have been tie games. Coach Clyde Williams Of Ames is determined to keep the Iowa schools record as coed as in former years and “ill put forth every effort to prevent Missouri winning game and break ing the long string of defeats and ties with a victory. Ames always has a :trong football team and this year is 70 exception. If Missouri wants the game Saturday the Tigers may have to play even harder than on last Saturday, when Iowa was beaten to 0. Coach Hollenback of the Tigers says nothing about what his teams pros | poets for victory are, but he is losing no chance to strengthen the team, and hard work has been the program at every session of the secret practice Several changes have been made in the line up since the Hawkeye game Hackney, shifted to quarter from half, has scrimmaged at his new positon every day for the Varsity and probably will start the Ames game. NOVEL;, whose work in the Iowa game was good enough to make it worth while to find Hackney new place so NOVEL; could be at full, is working in | the backfield daily and seems reason ably sure to start the next game. Lee Mire, the half who was injured last | Saturday, is still IN poor condition | and doing little work. Curtis, whose | defensive work at half was a feature | of the Hawkeye game and Hall, Mills, | and Klein are other backfelders who | have been working with the first team | men, In the line, Thompson is playing cen ter, where he made good in his first | game of the season last week. Purkhiser, candidate for the center place, has been shifted to guard, where he | S being played regularly on the Var s;ty. He weighs about 200 pounds and is the heaviest man on the Tiger | squad. Fitch. who played the Rolla game at guard, is again filling that position. Barnes, who had the place in the Iowa game, is out of the game temporarily with a dislocated shoulder. So far this week Johnson and Graves have had the call for the tackle positons and are likely to be the regulars there. Johnson was absent from practice yesterday, as he had an attack of the chills, but will play again today.
