October 31-Iearing great. gaping holes in the left side of the Navy line. ana making short dashes a-ound the Middies’ ends like no. madic Sioux, tackling like fanatic Paw nees and practically outplaying the Navy in every respect, the Carlisle Indian foot ball eleven was able to carry the ball to within kicking distance of the Middies goal. from where. on four different &C. casions. Belanti. the quarterback. booted the oval over the bars and enabled his school to trail the colors of the Navy In the dust. while. on the other hand, the Navy boys were but able to get touch down and a goal, the final score being 16 to 6. Sixty minutes of the fastest and fiercest foot ball that has been seen on the Navy gridiron for some time was witnessed by the 5000 or more spec tators. Although Navy had thousands of admirers in the crowd, the boys from Carlisle were we’ll supported in the cheer ing line. as was shown when their man at the helm of the team was able to score goals from the field. The Carlisle team was the first to appear on the neld, getting out at 2:25 o’clock, amid rousing cheer. not only from the spectators on their side of the field, but from the hundreds of middies who were massed on stand on the east side of the field. In comparing the two teams the llnemen were about even in weight. while Navy had the advantage in the back field, as it’s men were much heavier than the In dams The interference put up by the Indians was good. Their linemen opened good holes in the Navy line. especially in the second half, when long gains were made through the left side. THESE DIG linemen were also able to stop most all OF the Navy plunges through the line and forced the Middies to kick out of danger. Reifschneider, at left end for Navy, Is surely booked for that position on the All-American team this season Ii ne continues the work which he put up In the 1t was only on rare occasions that TINS future naval commander was not In the play and he was SO fast getting down the field on punts that he downed the IN dian almost as soon as he caught the ball. LANCE, at quarter, also played good game. His running back of punts. although not as good as last Saturday against Harvard. was fine. and on one occasion he covered thirty yards after having warded off six of the Indians VINO -. % l., Dalton did the punting for the Navy team, while Thorpe performed that stunt for the Indians. During the first hall the latter had the advantage. as he had the wind to his back. but when the goals were changed his opponent about evened I’D matters, and on the whole neither Sc cured any advantage. Belanti Out for a Minute. The game opened with Northcroft kick ing off to Payne on the 10-yard line, who came back ten yards before being downed. On the next lineup Thorpe punted 4o yards outside. Navy secured the ball on the 4O-yard line. LANCE took the first play and made five yards around left end. Belanti was knocked out on TINS play but unfortunately for Navy he soon revived and was back in the game. North croft tried a tackle run and made one yard, after which Dalton punted to Payne, who fumbled. and Cobb fell on the ball. Navy Fails on Field Goal. Richardson was sent through left guard for ten yards and took the next play and made five yards through the same place. LANCE circled left end for a short gain and the ball rested within striking dis lance of the Indian goal. Northcroft drop ped back for place kick, while LANCE held the ball, but the wind struck the oval lust as it was about to go over the posts and it curved outside. The Indians punted out from the % yard line. the ball going out of bounds. On the next try Lange received the kick and came back fifteen yards before being downed On a fake kick Richardson received the ball and went through the lire for five yards. WEST POINT HOLDS PRINCETON ID TIE Navy Loses to the Carlisle h. dianS 16–6 BELOITS GOAL KICKING Chicago Beats Minnesota ConcIusively, While Illinois Trims lndiana-Har- ward Wins Hard Fight From BroWn-The Results. West Point, N. r., October a.-Prince- ton met the Military academy cadets at football here this afternoon for the first time in two years, and the result was a tie In the first half honors were about even, but in the second the visitors threatened to score repeatedly almost from the time the whistle blew. Four times they carried the ball to within the cadets five-yard line, only to lose it on downs. Once they brought 1t to the four yard line on first down, but were un- able to cross the coveted goal line because of the cadets determined defense. Creole twice saved the game for the cadets by taekling Tibbott behind the line, while Johnson and Brown also broke up sev- eral plays at critical periods. West Point was dangerous only once, in the first half, when by a series of 1ushes and fake kicks the ball was put on Princeton’s 3O-yard line. Dean then tried a drop kick, but the ball went wild. In this half Princeton twice carried the leather to their opponents 15-yard line, but there West Points defense stiffened, and the visitors lost the ball. Tibbott Read and McCrohan were Princeton’s most effective ground gathers, while only Creole and Kern were able to advance the pigskin for the cadets.
