CARLISLE INDIANS BEAT MINNESOTA GAME IS VERY CLOSE AND THE INDIANS WIN ONLY BY USING EVERY TRICK PLAY THEY POS sEss. Minneapolis, November 16.--(Special.) The Carlisle Indians defeated Minne- sota on Northrup field this afternoon in the most spectacular game seen in the city by a score of 12 to 10. Until the whistle blew at the close of the last half it was anybodys game. neith- CT team having enough advantage to be assured of victory. Minnesota outplayed the Indians at old style football, while in open field work and forward passes, the Indians excelled. During the second half the Minnesota offense proved effective and for time a victory for the Gophers appeared certain. The Gophers proved a decided surprise to the 15,000 specta- tors who had expected Carlisle to run up a big score, showing a decided gain in team play and a brace in defensive work since the game with Chicago two weeks ago, that was remarkable. The Gophers went into the game with determination to win, or at least hold the score down better than Harvard did the Indians. The Gophers got the jump on their opponents at the start and scored on the fourth play by a field drop kick by Capron. The kick off Carlisle fumbled to Rademacher of Minnesota on the Indians 23 yard line and after two tries at the line Capron booted the ball over the cross bars. Carlisle came back strong on secur- ing the ball on a punt soon after the kickoff and showed a versatility of knack that for time threatened to bother the Minnesota players and car ry them off their feet, but the line braced and by brilliant tackling the ends succeeded in holding the fleet footed Indians. Final score, Carlisle, 12; Minnesota, 10. ba 1ipa nm.
