SCORE ON PRINCETON VillanOva Succeeds in Cross ing Tigers Goal Line. R0UGHNEsS MARS CONTEST Man from Each Team ReIegated 60 the SideIinc for SIuEging-In First 20 POints-Final score Is 45 to 3. Some Underhand Work UnnOticed. Princeton. Oct. 16.-When Princeton met Vnlanova at University Field this az ternoOn there was excitement in plenty, for the Pennsylvanians worked like trojams all tAe while, and put up a warm article of football More than that, Villa nova scored touchdown in legitimate manner, which mars what was hitherto a clean sheet for the Tigers. The final resuit was IS to s. There was no lack Of physical activity this afternoon, though the mental process became tagged quite frequently, and the officials earned their money. Princeton has been looking for an aggressive team just TO see what good the Orange and Black really is. She found it to-day in Villanova. The Pennsylvanians were aggressive almost 10 the point of pugilism. and several personal encounters re suited in the expulsion Of man from each eleven from the field. Even at that, q lot Of underhand work passed unnoticed At the outset an ugly feature crept into the game in the form Of fumbling, when both elevens scrambled all over the gridiron after the loose pig skin. Then Princeton settled down and ripped the Pennsylvania line 10 the total Of 2 TO 0 during the first half. A whole bunch Of Tigers faced Villa nova in the second round, and the alb sence-o Of the more seasoned varsity was evident. The visitors played Princeton 10 a standstill for a while. A series OF eleverly executed forward passes swept the Tiger substitutes of their feet, and Russell finally broke through for the first touchdown registered against the Orange and Black this year. Villanova missed the goal While there is no doubling that Villa nova is stronger than any aggregation that has yet faced Princeton. nevertheless the Tigers revealed many weak points which have gone by unnoticed till now, and there viii be lively doings at practice tomorrow. The big score is misleading, because the bulk OF it was not made on straight football tactics and was accumulated on fancy plays. such as forward passes. against mediocre ends. Brown and Wister starred at the extreme positions. manipulating on side kicks and forward passes nicely.

THE GRIDIRON PRINCETON WAS 7: SCORED ON Villanova With Local Boys in the Line-Up Did the Trick Other News. More tears for the Tigers. They rolled up another big score yesterday, foolishly forgetting that they were supposed to be making big totals against previous opponents because of the latter’s weakness. A close game has been wanted, but Villanova did not provide that, hence the impress sion, viewed by the Princeton coaches with horror, is spreading that Tiger strength has almost as much to do with the scores as the frailty of op- ponents However, despite Prince tons big score. Villanova played some football and the Nassau goal line was crossed for the first time this season, leaving only Yale of the big five with clean defensive rec ord. Last year Princeton beat Villa nova .24 to 0. twenty-one points less than were made yesterday Pennsyl- vania made seventeen more points against Gettysburg than last year and, unlike last year, was not scored OH by that team; but tine showing of the Quakers was not pleasing to their supporters. There was an epidemic of rough play. Men were disqualified for it at Princeton and Philadelphia and at Cambridge in practice game one of the Harvard varsity players used his fists and was sent to the side lines to do penance, Only one more in jury turned up in the practice at New Haven, Yale man suffering the mere trif1e of a broken nose.
