PRINCETON MAKES 40 POINTS Washington and Jefferson Is Over. whelmed by the Tigers. Even with n Substitute Team, Sons of Nassau Have No Trouble in PiIing Up Big Score. Princeton, n, J., Oct. l9.-Washington and jefferson came to this town to-day with express intention of putting 1t all over Princeton, but the Tigers simply walloped the visitors till the final count showed the score to be 20 TO O. Even then the whistle saved the visitors from further trouble. The Western Pennsylvanians had caused some concern by the extraordinary reports which had preceded them. Their squad had the weight, but team play was lacking to a great degree and they were restless and unsteady Kerberger proved great drawback, because he dived into plays before they began and was penalized individually 20 odd yards for so doing. Princeton used more substitutes than she has hitherto employed in any one game. The Orange and Black left wing was lamentably weak and the visitors plugged from the holes through this side sunny Price, captain and quarter back of Washington and Jefferson, worked hard and drove his team well, but was completely showed under by the all-around play of Eddie Dillon. Capt. Mccormick. too, was a power through out and ne did the bulk of the labor In advancing the ball through the line, Phillips assisting at center. In the stage during the second half Mccormick bang ed at the opposing frontier eight times in succession. He gained, yard by yard, and finally went over for a touchdown. Kumler punted for the visitors but his efforts were unequal to those Of either Mccormick, Harlan, or Orr. Harlan accomplshed the delayed kick often. He ran short distances, then booted, and usually put the pigskin over the heads of Price and KumleT. The Pennsylvanian3 started with a rush, sweeping through the line until the leather lay close to Princeton’s goal. The Tigers held for downs and directly reversed the issue, which resulted in a laboriously gained touchdown by Nc Cormick. Shortly after came the second tally Then Harlan dropped the ball to the 30-yard line and sent a pretty field goal whirling between the posts. The half ended with the score of 16 to O. Altogether, Princeton made six touch downs. kicked six goals from them, and got drop kick.

The visitors were heavy and used their weight to good advantage in the line. Three times Washington and Jefferson got the ball on the Princeton 10-yard line, but Princeton held twice and blocked a drop kick the third time The visitors were frequently penalized for violating the rules. Read and Tibbot played a SEN sational game skrting the ends for good gains. Mcormick’s line plunges and Dill Ions open field running were features. TIGERS BEAT W. AND J. MCORMICK THE STAR. Princeton Team Plays Brilliant Game and Wins Easily. Princeton. n J.. Oct l9-The Princeton football team played its best game of the to-day and swamped Washington and Jefferson by a score of 40 TO 0. Frincetons attack irresistible, and though the visitors put up pucky fight they could not stop the Tigers scoring machine. At times. however, Princetons defence mseraby weak. and twice the visitors carried the ball down the field for distances Of forty-five yards to Prince toms 10-yard line, but both times the Tigers rose TO the occasion, once holding their opponents for downs and once throwing them back for loss. In the first half Princeton scored two touchdowns and a field goal by Harlan from the 25-yard line. In the second half the substitute eleven than equaled the first teams performance scoring four touchdOwns. In marked contrast to the former games this year. Princeton’s scores to-day were all made on straight football. Mccormick. Dillon and Read the stars of the game Captain Mccormick played his finest game and gave exhibition Of line plunging such seldom has been seen here. Once he broke clear through the line and ran forty yards before being downed. He was used time after time and never failed. Dillon eclipsed his spectacular of last Saturday with a brilliant dash a kickoff for the entire length of the field. He stepped out of bounds near the centre Of the field and called back. In the second half Tibbott also did some clever running through broken field. The forward pass used four times and three times netted gains averaging twenty-five yards. Price played well for Washington and Jefferson. he line md
