SPORTING NEWS. Who Will Be the Champions at Football. Yale Harvard Contest Gives Princeton a Chance. BIG GAME SATURDAY Should the Tigers Defeat Yale on That Day It Would Solve the Problem = The Crimson Depressed. New York, Nov. 21.-Just one way remains to settle the eastern football championship, and that way is rather remote Yale and Princeton will meet Saturday in New Haven. Let Prince ton amass an unquestiOnably decisive total against the blue and the tigers consistently may be regarded as the champions. Let Yale do the same trick and Yale and Harvard necessarily must be regarded as joint claimants for the high hOnors, as those two col leges to all intents and purposes fought each other to a standStill Saturday, as a to 0 score indicates better than tie result with points. Reports seemed to indicate that Har- ward, on the whole, Outplayed its rival. Victory for the crimson was very near at least once and Yale by a valiant stand averted defeat. A defensive show ing at a trying moment and inside five-yard line, as this was, is worthy of the greatest COmmendat1On- Ana even if a team is Outplayed to some lit tie extent with such circumstances at tending it must impress fair-ninded person as absolutely unfair to say that the eleven should be beaten anyway II that is unfair, then it must be regarded as nOnSenSical to say that team lost the championship because it was OutDlayed. In this case it is a question if Yale was OUtplayed to any great eXtent. The cipher ScOre-and such a score is nine times out of ten sufficient would be evidence to the contrary. Harvard’s inability probably struck some critics as a great surprise. It Ger tainly was a surprise, but only mild one at most. Far more unexpected than that result was the outcome OF PrincetOn’S game with Washington and jefferson. The tigers won by the dis appointing score of to 0, when the ng- / ures seemingly should have been 20 to / 0, or more. For Washington and JET | ferson has had no particular rating in | the east. Yet that 6 to 0 score looks a little / suspicious. 1t always has been more or los 0f frln time of the year for a big team like / Princeton barely to beat an inferior | team in this way a week before con | test like that with Yale next Saturday to put its prospective opponents OF | their guard. 1t is true that Princeton played raggedly, but even that might ! have been part Of the ruse- | Harvard Men Depressed. | Cambridge.
