YALE HAD TO WORK DEFEATS PENNSYLVANIA STATE COLLEGE IN EXCITING GAME. | NEW HAVEN, Conn, October 2O.-Yale | defeated Pennsylvania State College 10 to o here today in the most exciting foot ball game played in New Haven this season, despite the adverse weather condition. The | last haf was played in binding rain, and | considering the conditions few fumbles were made by either side Yale’s scoring was | confined to the first half when a touch down with goal and field goal were made ! In the second half the visitors played a | faster game than Yale and on two occasions worked the ball to Yaie’s ten-yard line, in the first instance the ball being lost on downs, and in the second a goal from the field being unsuccessfully attempted. The ball struck one of the uprights and glanced off, this being the nearest to score against Yaie this fall. The forward pass proved invariably a good ground gamer for Pennsylvania State Quarterback Voorhees, and Maxwell right end, engineering the play. McCleary Of Pennsylvania State easily outkicked Roome of Yale. and the visitors held firmly against ! the attacks of the blue backs. In the first haf Erwin Of Yale and Henry of Pennsyl vaEia State were ruled off the field for rough tactics. Yale’s first touchdown came after about five minutes Of play. With the ball near midfield Knox punted to Henry who drop Ped the ball as Forbes pounced upon him. Elgelow picked it up on the 35-yard line and with Roome interfering carried 1t across the line for the first score Of the day. Knox kicked the goal. A few moments later Yale carried the ball to Pennsylvania States 25-yard line and Knox kicked a goal from placement. In the second half the visitors, by the aid Of McCleary’s splendid punting and several Yale fumbles, kept the ball in Yale’s terri tory most Of the time.
