ON FOOTBALL FIELDS REVIEW or PAST WEEK ON THE GRIDIRON. Victory of Vanderbilt Dampens Ardor of Alabama–Auburn Team 10 Showing Great Form. The football victory of Vanderbilt over Alabama at Nashville Saturday eliminated all chances. however mea- 10 have an undefeated season. From the accounts of the game. however. the chance are .ys prsht ths asf dsf successful football years in the his- tory of the Tuscaloosa institution. Auburn showed great form in run ming over the Marion Cadets and pill ever weak the Marion team may have been. and Marion has one of the very best prep school teams in this section of the South, it takes great foot ball machine to pile up such a score in fifteen minute halves. Auburn supporters are accordingly jubilant clashes with Auburn in November. that the wearers of the orange and blue will give the Commodores great sur prise. While Auburns has not yet played a game of any significance, re- ports that have gone abroad on the practice form are to the effect that Donahue has a squad 20 per cent fast Wh he s of suisa snd Jones, the big Birmingham boy, who was picked as an all Southern tackle by appearing on the campus in his football togs Saturday. Jones should be in even greater form this year than the season previous ana SnOul0 ne De. there are not more than one or two tackles that can stop him. The new men Holly. Neal. Booth and others seem to be doing good work and when Auburn plays her first game with Clemson, these men should be in great playing form. Clemson has always had good squad but it will be surprising if they are able to hold Auburn down to one or two touchdowns. Tech drubbed Georgia Agricultural Scnool Saturday to the tune of 54 to 0, but no possible line can therefrom be gained on Heisman’s squad. Tech has a very easy schedule this year. Heisman has either been very un- lucky or very astute in leaving such teams as Vanderbilt, Auburn, Sewanee important game is against Alabama and this will probably he his hardest game with the exception of the. Cum berland contest In holding the Van derbilt team to one touchdown in the second half of Saturdays game. Leav- enworths squad has shown conclusive ly that the lamentably weak defense of previous years has been improved: Alabama has only had about week of real practice while Vandy has been on the field for over month. Ala bama although vastly outweighed, was able to make gains through the Van- derbilt formations and with two or three weeks more of hard work should be able to give any team a tussle. Their next game is Saturday with the A. & M. College of Mississippi. This game should be Alabama’s. Auburn plays in Montgomery Sat urday and then takes on Davidson Col lege. Then comes A. & M, of Missis- sippi

ALABAMA LOSES ID VANDERBILT Final Score Does Not Tell the Tale VANDY’S QUARTER Is HURT Alabama Was Weak In First Half, But Got Into Form Later and Made Very Good Showing. VANDY’S QUARTER IS HURT Nashville, Tenn, October 7.-(Special.)- The Vanderbilt football squad won over the University of Alabama on Dudley Field here this afternoon by score or 84 to 0. The game was good one, how ever, and witnessed by very large crowd. It was Vanderbilts second game of the season and after months prac- tice the men were in splendid condition. The first half was very fast and five touchdowns were made. Vanderbilt had all the best of it. but on the opening of the second half Alabama rallied strongly and by some hard work checked McGugin’s men and reduced the score. Unfortunately for Vanderbilt one of her men, Frank Kyle, the crack quarterback, was severely injured and this added to the extremely hot weather discouraged the Commodores. Catchings threw Kyle and he fell heavily head first and was taken off the field unconscious. Physi- clans were called and he was sent to the hospital, where he regained conscious ness half hour later It Is thought that he will recover in few days. One of the features of the game was the work of Craig, Vanderbilt’s right half back, who played one of the prettiest games ever seen on the Dudley field. His defense was exciting and he was stopped only once when given the ball. The men played we’ll but there was some rough work toward the last After the accident to Kyle Alabama rallied somewhat and showed up stronger, making her distance several times, but was clearly outclassed and the big vandy fellows had the best of it throughout. The time of halves was seventeen minutes. Walker and Elgin were the officials. The line up; xY.xz.-,,l4 Dosttfop Alabama
