FOOTBALL NEWSOP INTEREST. YALE TEAM TORE UP AND WORE OUT SYRACUSE PLAYERS. Visitors Put Up a PIucky FIght-GIass Made the Great Play of the Afternoon Score Was 24 to O-YaIe at West Point on saturday-Other Games. Yale’s big rush line tore up the Syracuse team in a strenuous manner last Saturday afternoon and at the end of the game the visitors were more than ready to leave the field. The game was attended by more than 5,000 people, and at times the enthu. siasm was intense. The Yale cOachers had entertained some fears of the Syracusans and special attention was given the team last week in preparation for the contest with the New York state eleven. The strength of the Blue was materially in- creased by several new formations and ny the clever execution of the tackle backs formation. The great tackle by Glass oI Brown the Syracuse back, on Iaies ten yard line, was the feature of the day. The score of 24 to 0 in Yale’s favor illus trates the comparative ability of the two teams as they lined uD against each other last Saturday. Syracuse was at its best and they put up great uphill battle. Iney contested every inch of the ground ana forced Yale to play football from start to finish. The OverpOwering strength Of the sons of Old Eli was, however, too much Tor the visitors and with the score 24 to O against them the Syracuse men would have been scored on again had the game lasted one minute longer, as Yale had the ball on their opponents five-yard-line and were forcing the leather down the field at the rate of five and ten yards on each play. As it was the whsle saved the visitors rom facing defeat by the score of 50 to O, ln- stead of 24 to 0.
