IOWA RAGGED BALL Hawkeye Eleven Makes Miserable Showing inthe Game With 5 ... Simpson College. - L Iowa City, Iowa, Oct 22.--In a game, characterized by poor work by the Iowa team with Simpson college on Iowa field yesterday afternoon, the former won By a score of 10 to 0. That. the game was not q defeat was due to the playing OF Ochiltree behind the line. He was the only man who turned back the assaults Of Bert Ken nedy ON the hawkeye line and, with ST. berts. constituted the part Of the Iowa team that played football yesterday. Barring these two men, the Iowa team played awful ball. and the only consolation In the smirly atmosphere at Iowa City last evening was that~all the men knew that they played the worst game that has been seen on Iowa field for a long time. The halfbacks played finely In few offensive plays. but they made started too slow on almost every play, and the runners always ran too high. The tackles played a very weak game on the defensive and Captain Hollenbeck al lowed many runs around his end by fail ing to get the interference. ~, Assistant Coach. Hobbs said OF the game: 1T was tho worst / ever saw. One or two men played good ball, but the rest Of the work was awful. I can not account for the reverse Of form. 1t IS bad enough that 1t is here” In the first half Iowa let go chances to score by fumbling on weak work when near the goal. In the second half Simpson held on her own yard line and, aided by two punts which were missed by Griffifth and saved by Simpson players, put Iowa on the defensive for the last fifteen minutes of the game. Simpson, playing her tackles around, made her best gains in the first half, but in the second Bert Kennedy came forth the particular star Of the game. He was called back and given the ball for line bucks which made from two to five yards. ‘% - The Iowa tackles and guards played high and only Ochiltree in the second line Of defense prevented Kennedys coming nearer to Iowa’s goal than the twenty yard line. Iowa began the game by losing the ball three times on fumbles, once on Simpsons fve-yard line. The plays ran slow ly and the line frequently let Simpson through to break up the plays. On the second trial for a goal from place.
