  Notre Dame, idle last week, gets back in action Saturday against an up-and-down Navy at Baltimore. It’s Navy’s time to be up again but this is just one tough stop for the Irish schedule. ARMY IN PLAY Army, which overwhelmed Co., lumbia 63–⁠6, should enjoy another touchdown parade against Virginia Military Institute. Unbeaten Penn entertains Pittsburgh in one of the East’s top attractions. Michigan will meet Illinois at Champaign in a game that should help unravel the confused Western Conference race. Illinois is un- beaten in the Big Ten, has lost only to Missouri. The hest games in the South send Mississippi State against Tu- lane, Tennessee against North Ca rolina and Duke against Georgia Tech. Texas at Southern Metho- dist is the Southwest headliner. Tn other surprises Saturday, Iowa topped Northwestern, 28–⁠21; Rice beat out Texas, 17–⁠15, on Froggie Williams last gasp field goal; Mem phis State whipped Kansas State, 2l-14, and Kansas toppled Ok.>- homa A. and M., 55–⁠14. Baylor remained unbeaten, the unheralded dark horse” of the wide open country, by defeating Texas A. and M., 21–⁠0. Boston U. was victor over New York U., 38–⁠0. Virginia trounced Virginia Mill tary, 32–⁠13.

  Mighty Michigan, Louisiana State and Southern Methodist University supplied the fireworks for yesterdays football schedule that found surprises on many fronts. The twice beaten Wolverines (and expected to lose again) regained their power and upset Minnesota, IA to Z. before nearly 100000 persons at Ann Arbor. Louisiana State, in q major up set, stopped Charley Justice and North Carolina. Is to Z. at Baton Rouge. Southern Methodist defeated Kentucky, 20 to Z, to knock the Kentuckians from the list Of unbeaten and united teams. In another upset Iowa bowled over Northwestern. 28–⁠21; Illinois took over first place In the Big Ten by defeating Purdue. 10 to 0, and Pittsburgh lost it, first game as Indiana won. 40 to II.
