Upset Triumph Lifts Georgetown Hopes Against Maryland Georgetown’s football game at Maryland on Friday night-first between the schools since 1941suddenly has taken on the aspects of a real big game. A week ago the Hoyas would have been quoted as three touchdown underdogs, but the gap is considerably less after Georgetown’s upset. 20–13, victory over Holy Cross last Saturday, combined with Maryland’s not-too-polished play while beat ing Virginia Tech. 34–7. Ticket sales for the game took a brisk upsWing yesterday and a capacity crowd of close to $4,000 is likely for the 8:15 pm. game at Maryland’s Byrd Stadium. With only four days to get ready for the game-they can’t do more than light exercise on Friday both teams buckled down to work yesterday. Maryland players looked at movies of the Virginia Tech game. heard scouting reports on Georgetown and then went through a tough scrimmage session in private. Coach Jim Tatum let it be known that no visitors would be welcomed behind the board fence at College Park. Light Drill for HOyas. GeOrgetOWn’S workout wasn’t as stiff. Players who saw no action Saturday were scrimmaged against the freshmen, but those who did play had a fairly light workout and tried dummy defenses against Maryland’s split-T attack. The Hoyas haven’t yet seen movies of the Saturday game. because of a delay in processing color films. They’ll be viewed tonight, how ever. Both teams have glowing scout reports on the opposition. AS sistant Coaches Jack Hennemier and John Cudmore secuted Georgetown for Maryland, and reported to Coach Tatum that the Hoyas played as fine an opening game as they’ve seen. Their version of the Hoyas Is that they’re spirited team with an excellent line and a particularly good pair of ends in Francis Desmond and Bob Noppinger.. They also had praises for Billy Conn’s running and Frank Mattingly’s passing and added that more of Mating ly’s passes should have beer caught. For any solace it may give (See HOYAS-TERPS, Page A-18.)
