Terps Run, Pass ‘Co|onhi|s Dizzy For Fourth Win Only One Scoring Biz Is Made by Losers; 1904 Look on Light rain and a heavy producton of Maryland touchdowns descended on George Washington’s outclassed football team yesterday at Griffith Stadium. A chilled crowd Iof l6,034 saw the Terps strike quickly for their first touchdown, then manufacture scores with assembly consistency en- route to crushing the Colonials, 47–0. Maryland gave G. w. U. variety in its scoring technique. Vic Turyn passed three touchdown passes and Johnny Idzik another in aerial assaults ranging from 3 yards to “a. Hubie Werner dashed II yards to score. Johnny Baroni raced 63 yards with a kickoff into pay dirt and Stan Lavine romped SO yards to score after hauling in a punt. To complete the Colonials’ misery Maryland converted three points after touchdowns and sand wiched a safety into the proceedings. The resumption of football relations between the Southern Conference rivals after a lapse OF 50 years was accomplished to the accompartment of mild fistic hurries which resulted in Marylands Bob Andrus and Earl Roth being requested to leave the premises. Most of the unpleasantness oc- CURED after Maryland had compiled commanding lead. End Charley Jones of CIV. and Roth staged a showing episode in the third period, but officials didn’t chase anybody until AndruS made menacing motions in the direction of the Colonials’ Charley Butler late in the fourth period. When Butler and Roth exchanged blows on the following play Roth was banished. G. w. Threatens Only Once. George Washington’s lone scoring threat-in the second period at a time when Maryland was leading, 19-0-dissipated with shocking suddeness. The Colonials’ talented Andy Davis engineered CIV. from its 40 to Maryland’s 10, but at that juncture Jim La Rue intercepted a Davis pass on the Terps’ 2, returned to GW.’s 40, then lateraled TO Ray Krouse, who numbered to the Colo malls 27. That play. covering II yards, set up Maryland’s fourth touchdown. That G.W.’s homecoming affair was blghted was evident in the first few plays of the game. Idzik took the opening kickoff, returned SO yards to G.W.’s 48 and Maryland was off to its fourth victory in five games. A series OF stabs at George Washington line carried Maryland to the 3, where Turyn fired to End Elmer Wingate in the end zone with less than five minutes elapsed. Maryland’s second touchdown, delivered on the first play of the second period, stemmed from a Dick Koester tumble which Joe Tucker recovered for Maryland on | (See MARYI, I,AND.G w page R-3
