Rated pushover 6. U. :Conquers Tulsa by 12–0 AeridIs Send Oilers To First Defeat at Home Since 1914 TULSA, Okla, Oct. 18.-Labelled a “Class B” team in pre-game reports and rated pushover for Tulsa’s Golden Hurricane, George towns aroused hoyas struck swiftly through the air for two touchdowns in the second period today to hand their hosts surprising 1910 set back. 1t was Tulsa’s first loss on the home lot since the Iowa Seahawks turned the trick i’ll 1914. The husky Hilltop crew, frying about newspaper stories deriding their ability, completely throttled the Hurricane ground game and threw up a respectable defense against it’s passing attack to win with ease. The powerful Hoya line held Tulsa to % yards and while the Westerners gained al yards through the air Georgetown kept them we’ll away from its goal line. Tulsa made only one real threat early in the first period-but the Hoyas bluntly squelched it on their 27-yard line and the home team simply couldn’t get going after that. The Hurricane blew, or rather puffed into G.. U. territory only twice in the second half. The first time 1t begged down on the A9-yard strip and the second found Tulsa encamped on the 39-yard line as the game ended. Raba on the Trigger. 1t was a nice win for Coach Jack Hagerty, who quarterbacked the 1923 Georgetown team that chalked ! up 240 victory over Tulsa. 1t also continued the Hoyas’ habit of upsetting Western foes in intersectional games. Elmer Raba was the trigger man on both Georgetown scoring plays, firing his first touchdown pitch to George Benigni and the second to Johnny Kivus. Frannie Desmond started G. U. toward its first score by hauling in Jim Finks’ pass, as Harold Stratton was reaching for it. He raced 43 yards in heavy traffic to Tulsa’s 5-yard line before J. r. Boone caught him from behind. Tommy Graham, Connie ODoherty and Graham again made no impression on Tulsa’s fighting line, but on fourth down Raba found Benigni wide open in the end zone. Bus Werders try for the extra point was wide. A 19-yard pass from Raba to Benigni featured 58-yard for George towns second 6-pointer. Joe Sullivan, Raba and Kivus smacked the line for first down on Tulsa’s Al before Benigni took the throw that put the ball on the %. Raba then unwrapped strike to Kivus, who slipped behind Dick Moseley and took the. ball in the end zone. Hoya Generalship Faulty. The Hoyas penetrated almost to the goal line twice again, but mex perience and faulty field general snip kept them from going over. An exchange of punts, in which Raba’s 55-yard boot put Tulsa in bad hole, gave G. U. the ball on Tulsa’s 38. Graham hoisted a 54yard throw to Benigni, putting the ball on the 1-yard line and again the Hurricane line refused to give ground. On fourth down Raba passed to Bill Dzugan on the 1-yard line. All he had to do was dive over for points, but seeing three Tulsa men a few feet away he tried to run toward the corner and was spilled on the 1-yard line Late in the final period, with Tony Boyer and Lou Miller running the ball and Raba passing to Benigni and Sullivan, the Hoyas reached Tulsa’s 2-yard line. On second down Raba attempted another pass and Dee Clements intercepted the ball and ran it out to his own IL. The game was played in summer like heat, but the Hoyas showed no signs of willing. They seemed to get hotter, fguratively and liter ally as the game wore on.
