Don Phelps Leader AS Kentucky Beats West Virginia Club LEXINGTON, KY, Nov. 16.-U.D Don Phelps, a freshman half back, proved the best mudderr in the field here today as Kentucky struck early in each half for a 1870 victory over West Virginia. Although the two teams spent most of the afternoon kicking a, soggy football back and forth, Phelps turned in three brilliant runs that were directly responsible for Kentucky’s sixth win in eight games. +. Kentucky received the opening kickoff, but was forced to punt. West Virginia found the same diff cult going on the rain-soaked turf, and kicked back to Phelps on his own 80. The fleet freshman splashed his way for go yards before he was finally pushed out of bounds On the West Virginia 10 yard line. Two plays later he took the ball from the eight yard line on a sweep around left end for a touchdown. Phil Cutchin’s kick made it Ken lucky I. West Virginia O., after less than five minutes of play. > The rest of the period was a punting duel between, Cutchin and Joe Kuhayda, with the West Vir. gilman having a shade the better of it. The only break came when Phelps snagged a West Virginia pass on his own 20 and raced it back to the Mountaineer IS.
