Virginia 0yerpowers Mountaineers, 10; Brown Is Star CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va, NOV. 23- Two sustained marches, one for IS yards and the other for 81, plus Sub stitute Haifback Ray Browns dag zling 55-yard gallop gave the virginia Cavaliers a 21–0 triumph over a stubborn but outclassed West Virginia football team today. Twelve thousands spectators, in cluding Gov. William M. Tuck and other members of the States off, cial family, turned out for the Commonwealth Day” feature and saw Virginia put on what probably was it’s best gridiron show OF the campaign. Virginia, unable to do much In a rather listless first quarter, finally found the pay window with 2 min utes remaining in the half. In dizzy climax to the 73-yard march, Quarterback Jimmy Levitt shot quick, 3-yard pass into the end zone to End Raymond Yates, and then Halfback George Grimes made the extra point from placement, gust as he did after the two later Cavalier touchdowns. The peculiar thing about the 73yard jaunt was that the Cavaliers got Q downs. after 1t was first down and goal to go on West Virginia’s 8. After four downs, West Virginia was charged with lining up so as to interfere with Virginia Center Lockwood Frizzell and the referee |penalized the Mountaineers five yards and gave Virginia first down. On the next fourth down and Virginia still shy of the goal, both sides were offside and the Cavaliers got still another try. This one paid of. Virginia really didn’t need any more touchdowns but got two OF them, one in the third when Half back Billy Pennel s4uirmed over from the 2-yard stripe to wind up q 51-yard march, and the last in the fourth when Brown went back to punt, decided to run, and went all the way. SIS yards. in a brilliant exhibitiOn of broken field sDrintinp.
