E.. r Sk PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 26.-Tony Minisi who played for Navy last year and beat Pennsylvania with a forward pass in the final Is seconds, made it up to the Red and Blue today as he led Penn to a 32-to-19 victory before $4,000 spectators Playing only part of the first half and not at all in the last two quarters. the 20-year- -old left-handed halfback scored three touchdowns and passed for a fourth to give Penn 1876 lead at the intermission. The margin was too great for a plucky, ard-fghting Navy team to overcome despite a great rally. So hot was Minisi’s hand today that in the second period he scored two touchdowns within SO seconds by way of assuring the Penn power house of fourth straight triumph and himself of All-Americaconsideration. He ran his string of COM pleted passes for the season to 13 straight before missing, galloped 36 yards around end for one touch down, bucked over from the 1-yard line yard for another and carried an intercepted pass 40 yards for his final contribution to the defeat of his former teammates. Navy Dominates Second Half. Navy was overwhelmed only because of Minisi, for in the second half the Midshipmen took COM mand and not only scored a pair Of touchdowns but missed third score by a scant yards. 1t was Navy’s fourth straight defeat against a single victory, but the Middies played their best football of the year. Penn surprised Navy by using the T formation for the first time this season to augment a single wing offense, but only when Minisi was in the game did the T click. The Quakers, overwhelming favor ties to win the 31st game between the teams and end 6-year famine against Navy, took TO lead after I7:5l of the opening period when an intercepted pass put them in scoring position. ! Charles Bednarik, Penn center, grabbed an aerial thrown by Quarterback Jack Welsh and ran % yards to Nays Is. Bob Deuber, a fleet ball carrier, reeled off 20 yards around end and Minisi, after losing 3 yards, passed to End Art Littleton in the end zone for the first touch down. 1t was Minisi’s 18th COM pleted pass in as many tries this season. ! Quakers Add to Lead. | The only touchdown in which Minisi had no hand was the second. which gave Penn a 14–0 lead at the end of the first period A 22-yard run by Deuber moved Penn to Nays AZ and pass, Carmen Falcone to Ed Allen. put the ball on the 20. The staggered Midshipmen rallied when Fullback Lynn Chewing kicked outside on Penn’s and Left Halfback Pete Williams ran the return punt to the Quakers A. On the next play Welsh passed to Will Iams, who ran down the sidelines. shook off two tacklers. and scored to cut the score to 20–6. Penn charged back, however, to put the game beyond reach. With Minisi leading running end and passing attack, the Red and Blue. aided by a 15-yard roughness PEN atty, moved Sc yards to Navyis /, from where Minisi plunged across to make it 26–6. PENN TOPPLES MIDDIES BY TUNE OF 32-l9 Tony Minisi Is e a d e For Victors AT Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA. Oct. &c W.P- Tony (Skippy) Minisi paid back his debt to Pennsylvania today when he spanked the Quakers to a 32–19 victory over the Navy before $4,000 thrilled fans on Franklin Field. The former Newark Academy boy, whose touchdown for Navy in the final % seconds of play defeat ed Penn a year ago, turned in a man-sized days work in the two periods that he played and served general notice again that he is in the running for any all-American team. 1t was Minisi all the way through. But he had help from a Pennsylvania team that added to its sta ture today by displaying a T-fofnation, which coupled with its standard single wing, produced too varied and two powerful an often sive for a game Navy team to fathom. All that Minisi did for the day was score three touchdoWns and pass for a fourth before he retired. He say no action in the second half, and that was when Navy turn ed, in its best play. One of Minisi’s touchdoWns was a SO yard-run from scrimmage and n was a 49 yard gallop after he Intercepted a pass. In both he SEEM ed stopped a half dozen times but he went over the goal after escap. ing what seemed fool-proof traps. While Minisi’s play may not have been too great a surprise, the man ner in which Penn manipulated the T for the first time this season proved a revelation. 1t operated best when he vas in the game, and in the second haE, was discarded as Penn played out the time. Minisi waited nc longer than the first time he got his hands On the ball to display his wares. His first sortie was a 10 yard run, then he sent Penn off in the lead by throw ing a seven yara touchdown pass to Art Littleton. Don Schneider &C counted for PENIS second touch down. The Minisi lightning really struck Navy in the second period. First he ran 36 yards for a score. Then he went over from the n after a roughing penalty against Navy put the ball On that spot. Less than a minute later, he intercepted TO run 40 yards for another tally. Navy made a bid in the second period when Jake Welsh passed to pistol Pete Williams who ran Al to score. But the rally was only temporary, and Penn went along to win. Competing against Penn reserves Navy wound up the scoring in the fourth period with Bill Hawkins scoring from the two, and Bill Bart lett passing ten yards to Bob SchoWeffermann.
