Columbia Won Great Grid Game As the feller says, you wouldn’t bet counterfeit money on Colum- bias chances of defeating Yale Sat- urday before 65,O00 in the bowl in the middle of the third quarter; but Lou Little’s lads were 28–20 winners when the last whistle was blown. The game had everything imagin- able; such as Levi Jacksons 82 yard run for a touchdown after fumbling Q kickoff; savage line play on the part of Yale in the first half that stopped the speedy Columbia backs Rossides, Kusserow and KaSpryzak before they could get under way. Rossides, in particular, was as fast as a bullet, but a big line couldn’t shake him loose for more than few yards at a time; while Jackson, and Ferd Nadherny were really making merry, with such great help up front. What happened to Yale in the second half may never be known, movies to the contrary; but the fact remains that Columbia start ing passing attack (mostly Kas- pryzak to Siwacki) that was so ef- fective, the Lions quickly came from the short end of 20–6 score in the third quarter to 22–20 lead; then added the easiest kind of fourth quarter touchdown, when Tex Purse attempted to pass near the Yale goal line; as the Lion forward wall roared in on him and the ball was plucked off his shoulder by an alert Little lineman. As for Jackson, the New Haven colored boy-he gave a grand ex- hibition on rainy day; setting three touchdowns; one of them his 82 yard run after tumble while T Columbia players hit him on the way to the goal, but could not bring him down. He is one of the hardest college football players to bring down that I have ever seen. Colored sportswriters from the Pittsburgh Courier and Amster- dam News (N.
